Bridging and Ohm Question

Post by NViejeP »

I'm kind of confused on the subject of ohm but I get the general idea.

However, I have a question.

I plan on getting a 4 channel amp, 2 channels to power my front speakers, and rear channels to power my subwoofer. I plan on bridging the 2 channels to power the sub.

If my subwoofer is 4 ohm, what do I look at, 4 ohm bridged or 8 ohm bridged?

This is what confused me:

Rated Power (bridged):
90W RMS x 2 @ 8 ohm (12.5V);
150W RMS x 2 @ 4 ohm (12.5V)

Thanks

the re is dual 4 ohm so it can be wired at 2,4, and 8 ohms.

I see.

This is the speaker I'm planning on getting:

This means that everything has to be 4 ohm right?

Would 2 ohms be preferred? Which is better or does it not relaly matter?

Thanks a lot by the way.

also ohm is the measure of resistance, so less ohms=more power

I see. So I probably want less ohms. Would 4 ohms be okay though or should I really taget some speakers at 2 ohms?

Less does give you more power, but it also means your amp will create more heat, putting out that power. So you need to make sure your amp can run at a lower ohm.

if you bridge the rear two channels, you need a 4 ohm load. no lower.
you'll need a single 4 ohm coil sub, or a dual 2-ohm coil sub for this, if you're using a single sub.
