Ah, that would have been perfect but I can only fit a 6x8, those are 6x9s. Damn, anything else like those?OnYrMrk wrote:http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=264-837
You might try these for your rear speakers. I have heard great things about them and they work in an infinate baffle. IE not box. Just mount them in the stock location, and you have bass. Since you have 6.8 mounting holes, you may have to mod it, but you can get really good bass out of them.
Then get a good 4 channel amp, amp the fronts on 2 channels, and then bridge the rear with the other two.

Amp, speaker and LOC questions
I'm not arguing, as you are absolutely correct. However, in my situation, the 5 being a family car, 2 kids, the rest is for storage I can't lose much room to a sub. Secondly, I wouldn't be able to jam it often with an infant and 4 year old in the back seat making the sub a waste. So for now, I'm limited to 4 6x8s and I have the 2 Polks up front. I was hoping I could find clean sounding 6x8 subwoofers of sorts to give me as low of bass as possible from a 6x8.GlassWolf wrote:a- if I can put twelve 8" subs in a Fiero GT, I can surely fit a single 8" or 10" sub into a mazda 5. fitting a sub isn't the problem. Finding the place to put it then fiberglassing the enclosure is, if you don't want to pay someone else to do it.
As for the Cleansweep, you can always put a plate under the dash to hold the knobs. No reason you have to drill any holes really.
It's not really a matter of how small the 5 is, it's more a matter of how creative you want to be with the space you have to work with.
Cool idea about the plate, just not sure about the switching every time I change a source. I think I'd want to just go with a LOC that doesn't require any knobs.
OK, well, the space I have that can fit anything is 7"w by 20"L by 9" H. So, that about rules out using an 8". So I guess I'm left with 2 6 1/2" then. WHat would be the best way to utilize two 6 1/2 for bass purposes? A band pass set up? Just two down firing, ported enclosure I guess to help with the boomy-ness if there is any. It's a mini-minvan so sound should fill the cab well.
Any ideas? hehe, if there is any to give whatever bass I can in the above area?

Yea, I agree with that, especially given the size restrictions.
It seems my best options are -

Any others? And what's the best way to go about designing a box? Get the speaker, then the specs, find the volume needed, then build it? What about if I used two 6 1/2, what's the best option there and how would you figure out the internal volume for each speaker and/or port area?

Or just two side by side 6 1/2" down firing? This will go between two seats, both with kids, so no ports or speakers can be accessible. Downfiring would be the best option. I guess feet on the bottom to allow for air flow from the port?
Or just throw a single JL Audio 6W0-4 into a ported box?
What would be the best 6 1/2 for bass? I guess I'll have to find a 5 channel amp for this and 4 door speakers?

Since you are given such a small area to work with, it's best just to make the box as large as you can. Use a normal port in a normal ported enclosure (i.e. not a slot port), as any others will take up too much space.
As for what to tune it to, that will depend on/be limited to the depth you have to work with for the port. You hopefully well be able to tune it to 35-37 Hz.

Yea, definately downfire and have them side by side. You will need enough room for the speakers to exurt and "some room to breathe" I guess is the phrase for it :)Kid Red wrote:Or just two side by side 6 1/2" down firing? You may be able to put the port on the side of the box (hopefully facing toward the front of the car to prevent any unwanted objects from entering).
