HU Wiring Help

Hey peeps, i posted this in the audio discussion thread, however am posting here, more related to what i need. Anyway I want to install a new HU with the use of the HU manual however not the car wiring manual,relying on the use of DMM. I dont know how to determin, the dimmer, illumination, ground and power antenna. How would this be done without the use of the car wiring diagram, only the CD Player manual (to determine, Wire colour coding), and a DMM to find the corresponding wires in the car.

dimmer- Should have a varying DC output

illumination- This is standard/built in with the 12V Constant/switching- so this is null

ground- Continuity check

power antenna- Not applicable unless you have a power antenna. The only way to locate this is to input a 12VDC power and see if it goes up. But when doing this you may hit a wire your not supposed to and blow fuses or items in the electrical system

continuity to do this would i use the car body and the ground wire.
