Installing components
Im new to this forum but $80 for component install is about right for the area I live in. At the shop I work at we get $80 get component installation. As for
4x6 to 6.5 adapters I am not aware of any company that actually makes them for resale (Metra, AAMP, ect) So the shop would most likely make them. Plus keep in mind if you flushing the tweeter of the component set into the door if you pay the shop to do it you can hold them accountable to deliver a professional looking installation unlike some buddy that will do it for $20 and a six pack.

On the Sunfire you have a 4x6 in the door. You can put a 6.5 in there but you would have to build a spacer plate so the window clears the speaker. Its done fairly easily the shop you were talking about would have to fabricate something (No adapter plates avail that i am aware of). Unless you know what you are doing $100 is fairly reasonable as long as the job is up to standard. Another piece of advice make sure the shop is using ABS or some sort of water resistant material to make these adapters (Not Wood) as wood will eventually give in to the elements (Insides of doors are not exactly water tight)

I had a 95 sunfire. I took out the plastic 4 x 6 speakers and the plates they were mounted on. I took a peice of 3/4" fiberboard, cut it to 8" x 8", and cut the hole for the 6.5" to mount in. I then used the same holes as the plastic 4 x 6 holders to screw the 6.5" on. Took about 20 minutes to make both fiberboard plates.sunfire 95
