god da$% heater core!

ok guys we need to fix my brothers car and we dont have the money to go professinal on this. the heater core on his 95 tarus GL. now i know this is a huge deal and i know there is a lot of work involved. but im just checking to see if you have any tips.

never done that in that car some cars take less than a half hour and some take 8. your blazer takes 8 so lucky your not doing that.

yea the older cars are easy there under the hood the newer cars are all under the dash

You should be able to bypass the hose and buy yourself some time if you have to. I do realize it's cold outside, but if emergency comes up, you gotta do what you gotta do. Other than that, have fun :) That's why I like trucks.

At first glance I thought it was gonna be about the blazer. My uncle thought he had a bad heater core in his. The shop wanted almost $500 in labor to change...

Now a Taurus I have no clue...

Tip #1 BUY THE BOOK FOR THE CAR

Tip#2 Follow the books instructions.

Tip#3 Buy the GOOD core so you dont have to do it again

Is the core leaking or just not enough heat if any?

My Uncles lost heat... Turned out to be just pluged up. He had it back flushed and refilled and it works even better than ever...

no its bad when you put on the defroster it blows all over the windows the core is toast i know that for sure. they want 50 bucks for the core and 450 for labor. he has heat just cant defrost and thats very bad. i drove it to the mechanic damn near blind!

I know all about having to work on family members cars.

Last summer I replace the following parts on my sisters 95 oldsmobile achieva.

Crank
Rod & main Bearings
Rear main seal
water pump
both head gaskets
intake gasket
thermostat
heater core
Starter
Alternator
radiator
Thottle postioning senor
Tranny fluid and filter
Both wheel cylinders

And then retard runs a red light and all that goes work down the drain, even worse it took the insurance company over two months to pay, even worse than that is they gave WAY below blue book...

Them cars suck so bad to work on. I did the radiator in one and took me the better part of 3-4 hours...

THe water pump went bad also... She had to take that one to a shop...
