Opinion on new project

I have nothing against the W7's at all. I think they are an excellent driver.

Can I still expect to be well into the 140's with the D9's?

I am concerned about sq, but at the same time, I want to be able to roll down the windows and pound some serious bass (old school Dynamix, Bass 305, Techmaster PEB, DJ Magic Mike).

you will have serious bass there and you sq will be good im guessin you gonna be around 142-144 thats my estimate trust me this is plenty loud! my first competiton in street 2 meca i did a 142.5 and got second place in the ohio soundfest state finals! trust me you will be fine!

Ok...last change..I promise..lol..

I am going with a ported encloser at 1.5cu.ft. per driver. The output was SUBSTANTIALLY higher vs sealed. The spec sheet showed a whopping 7db louder (115db vs 108db) at 40hz ported over sealed with the same power. There will be a 30 hz subsonic filter. It's 3db down at 31hz ported vs 50hz sealed.

Any clue of where in the 140's I should expect to be in SPL?

will your port/ports be aimed up through the package tray as well? If so I would tend to believe in mid-upper 140's, but if the port is placed say, behind the rear seat, your db's may be slightly lower. I have one 13" in a sealed box, fireing up through the package tray of my Mark VIII and although we haven't metered it, I feel I am near or just above the 140 mark. Since I have never had a ported box, I feel that maybe Raul or Bill can answer this better.

i belive you should be around 141 - 145 and 40hz is mehhh a lil high for daily driving and you gonna loose some sound quailty there. but overall i dont think it will be bad cause its hard to make a diamond sound bad. your note is my guess gonna be around 42-48hz depedning on your cars resonant frequency so i would run a 35-50hz sweep to get your note. let me know how it goes

40hz? 7db increase in output @ what Freq? Man... sounds like SPL is a priority to you... I would perhaps consider cheaper subs & still be in the 140's...

BTW... you'll not get a more specific number from anyone cause car acoustics (& even weather conditions) can\will have an effect on your SPL runs...

SPL isn't the main priority at all. I just want to have a good "slam" factor for when I get the itch.

The ports will be in the rear deck aimed up at the rear window, just like the subs.

If I had the additional time to be without my car, it was an idea to put an actuator on the ports to open/close them as needed. Closed for SQ and open for SPL.

I have a few photos of the progress so far. I am actually going to the shop now to see how it's progressing. The fiberglass wasn't hardening as fast as desired due to the cooler weather today.
