I have a 88 hatchback mustang if there are any tips how i should set up my car audio system please help. I need all the tips i can get. My friend that knows car audio said that i should get a kicker sound system with l5's but how do u measure the speaker??? is it by height or diagonally like a tv? By the way i want mega bass and i have the room for it he said i should get four l5's because their in my price range.

Robby, check out this page:

I'm also just getting started and have found this to be a great source of reference. I especially like this page:
http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/f ... prune=&f=8
Whereas the author doesn't claim for it to be the end-all-be-all list; it's helped steer me away from the really bad brands. I've been pricing amps and speakers lately and I've found that stores charge just as much for some of the "bad" brands as the "good" ones. It's good to have some idea of what to look for. Also check out this site: http://www.bcae1.com if you really want to learn about car audio.

A lot of people are not big on the Kicker Solobarics...I happen to like them though..If you heard them and you liked them..that could be something to consider..I'm not sure how much space you have..4 of those kickers would take up a little room though..make sure you have the space for them before purchasing anything..I've found the Kickers to have pretty good SPL, but they lack in Sq..It depends on what you want out of your system really.

a fox body stang is a good starting point.
what sort of music do you like?
are you more after a good sound quality system, or do you just want the loudest thing on the block?
how much space can you sacrifice for subs and box?
what is your budget?
how much of the work will you do yourself? will this be installed by a pro?

these questions will help us to help you.

robby welcome to the board, you have probably made one of the best choices by asking for our help(i would save a coulple of thousand if i knew!)before whe can help you whe need to know , youre price range, what type of music you listen too , those L7's are loud the are SPL subs , spl is basiclly subs ment for competing(sound pressure level) and dont sound good, then theres SQ subs(for sound quality, sound good)and L7 and L5's dont have that, and then there are the amazing best of both world SQL subs(louder than spl but sound as good) so hopefully this helps you out a bit.

being that your Mustang is a hatchback you will have greater DB. Kicker Solobaric subs arent that great to me, while they do get loud( four with 600rms are Very loud ) they do not sound good at all doing this, but will "impress everyone" i guess if thats what you want. personally to me if you want something loud then look into other brands that are better overall. my friend Crzystng has an 89 hatchback he had two 15" RF HE's in it. then he put his Tempest in there each in septer 3.7^3 enclosures.

just an example i guess, id look into a single good sub. anyway you came to the right place for car audio. look into Resonant Engineering or Adire Audio. :s_thumbup

The most important thing that I can't stress enough is DO NOT SKIP OUT ON A GOOD ENCLOSURE! I have a '91 stang with 2 MMATS PRO 15's in the back and it is plenty loud, and sounds great too. I went ported, 2.5 cubes each after port and sub displacement and am very satisfied. The subs fire right at the glass and the ports fire straight forward into the cabin. Sounds great. What do you prefer? 10's? 12's? 15's? In that car your not going to need huge displacement to get loud. When all said and done, you should talk to Justin, one of the mods here; He owns his own sub enclosure company and does good work. I highly recommend him for building an enclosure, box turned out nice, plus he's really cool to deal with. I will definately do business with him again should I need another box.
