JBL 600.1 or JBL 1200.1

Post by Scarrell »

ok well i might sell my RF 3001 for $75 to a friend. this amp will only give my Tempest 150rms at 4 ohms. i can get the JBL 600.1 or the 1200.1 after i sell this amp, this is all in a 94 Celica hatchback. i am not sure how big the alt is. i know i can run the 600.1 just fine but, would a 1200.1 work fine? if you need any other info let me know.

Doubtful. You will hardly ever find a stock alt that can run 1200 watts.

He'll be running it at 4 ohms, so its only going to be 600 watts. As far as you being able to run 600 watts? Maybe...

Have you checked your alternators rating?

Didn't notice the 4-ohm thing. You MAY be able to get away with it. I ran a JBL 1200.1 at 4-ohms on my stock alternator with no problems. Truth be told, I was only running it for about 3 weeks before I upgraded the alternator, so I can't say much in the way of long-term damage.

I ran my JBL 600.1 in my 93 dodge spirit (V6), and my 88 ford ranger (4cyl). My cousin now runs it in his 00 dodge dakota (v-6). In all 3 vehicles it ran fine off the stock electricals.

hmm well im sure the 600.1 would work, which would leave me with options for future subs if needed, but the 1200.1 would just be...just to say i have 600rms to the sub :p ill look into the alt size, definately isnt bigger than 70 im sure. also i Highly Highly doubt there will be an altenator upgrade. the other reason why id go with the 1200.1 is it isnt too much more than the 600.1, why not upgrade for just a few dollars more? but i want to see what you all think before i decide on which amp. if only i could find a new amp that will put out more than the 600.1 in the same price area! (Cardomain said it would be around $174 shipped to me, which is 62821)

Go to your local Murrays or Autozone. They should check your alternator for you for free. That's the first thing I did when I got my new one. Guy advertised it on ebay as 140amps and autozone checked it at 170 amps.
