i have two 12" memphis subs with 400rms and 800peak and im wondering how i should wire them... my amp runs 1100watts at 1ohm, 600watts at 2ohms, and 300 at 4ohms.... here are my questions-
1. How many ohms should i wire them at, and how would i wire them?
2. Would it hurt my subs if i sent more power to them than the rms rating is?
3. Since there are two subs, does the power being sent out of the amp get divided into to two? (so if there is 300rms being sent to two subs, then is 150rms being sent to each woofer)

Wiring and Ohms
firstly, what is the voice coil configuration on those subs? (single/ dual 2/4ohm)
1. i could probably be safe sending those subs 600 watts at 2 ohm, depending on what VC config the subs are
2. you could give it a little more than the RMS rating(not too much!)
3. what amp is it? is it a mono or 2 ch? im guessin mono.. give us the specs on the products and everyone can help further

Like MrSo said, you will need to find out the ohm load of your subs.
As for the amp, runninng it at 4 ohms might not give you enough power to your subs.
Running it at 1 ohm might cause to much stress on the amp. I would run at a 2 ohm load. You should be able to run at that load all day long.
Your subs act as one when they are wired mono on a amp. Your subs will not break the power in half. So if you have a 500 watt amp the subs will be getting 500 watts.
