2010 Yaris complete stereo advice

Post by Ben_ »

Hello forum members

First post

I've tossed around the idea of upgrading my stereo in my Yaris for a while now and now that I've decided not to get a second car I'm planning on doing some mods to my car

I'm unhappy with the sound quality of the stock stereo and the stock head unit has a terrible volume knob which goes up when I want it to go down sometimes

My biggest concern at this point is theft protection since all head units come looking like the Vegas strip any more

Not sexy

So I'm hoping I can get some advice on replacing my head unit and speakers while keeping a theft deterrent oem look

I have not decided for sure on anything so any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.

What does your OEM deck look like now?

With the upgrade what are your goals, are you just wanting to replace stock, or are you wanting to add a sub/amps too?

I'm looking to replace stock no subs

If I was going to do a sub it would be a small one just to catch low frequencies that 6.5" speakers can't get. I'm not into the boom boom stereos. I'm looking for a low profile stereo

Not looking for quantity but quality of sound. If the new stereo was the same volume as the oem one I'd be happy. I'm suffering from hearing loss and don't need to blow out my ears any more

Here's a pic of the oem head unit

Just looking to replace the oem stuff. No subs

Sound quality and theft deterrence are most important

Well looks like you have a double din sized unit.
Most aftermarket decks you find are going to be a touch screen type. Which I think would look good in that location.

There are a few that are not, I believe Pioneer has one out there.

Here is the one I'm thinking of
Pioneer® FHX720BT - Double DIN CD/MP3 Receiver with MIXTRAX, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, USB Playback, Pandora and Android Music Support

I personally don't like the look of that one, I think it stands out more than a touch screen type would

Hello to all,
i'm new to the group and would like to share some of my experience with regards to car audio. I think the Pioneer is a good start. But your car has a vehicle specific DIN size. The width of the OEM unit is Toyota Specific size (200MM). Pioneer, Kenwood both have the Toyota Specific solutions. You may still go with a universal solution but you will need 2 trim brackets to be installed to manage the extra gaps on either side. Esthetically the Toyota specific size fits in well flushed with the dash.
If your going for a DVD system you can easily fetch the Toyota Specific size. Only draw back is the Toyota specific offered by both Pioneer and Kenwood have no built in GPS navigation.
But then again there is GPS Interface for Kenwood and Pioneer by a brand called Navgo. You can hook it up and run any map solution its just plug and play.
Check out the models.
Pioneer : AVH-X5750BT 7" touchscreen multimedia player with easy smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth and more - Pioneer Car DVD Player, Screens (Please note the AVH-XL5750BT is the Toyota size. "L" is to show its toyota specific.
Kenwood :DDX715WBT | Multimedia and Navigation | Car Electronics | Kenwood Australia
Navgo Electronics : Navgo Electronics | GPS Navigation Interfaces
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Yeah me too agree with that one. Overall look isn't that much fascinating and not even close to those which have a slide in it.
