really confused about DVC subs and how to wire them

Post by chazcheetah22 »

If they are 100watts to each coil do you need 2 channels on your amp to wire them to? Or can power both coils correctly with a mono amp.. Everything I read is very unclear just says you have all these options with said system and that's about it.. I'm hoping someone on here can talk to me like a normal person not someone who has spent years studying audio like everything I find online. Thanks guys

No, you do not NEED two channels. Yes, you can wire both coils correctly to a mono amp.

An exception would be dual 2Ω voice coils wired in parallel to a mono amp with a minimum speaker impedance rating of 2Ω, let's say.

:attitude Wiring your dual voice coils in series will double their impedance, parallel will halve it. Keep the total load above the minimum your amp can handle. Basically treat each voice coil like a separate speaker. You can hook up 8 separate speakers (or eleventy billion) to a single channel, mono amp if you wanted to.
