In a holding patern

Post by Robert Wollenberg »

How goes it? Weather here has been crappy to say the least. If I can get a break in the weather later today, I'm going to try to get what measurements I need to order the gear for my truck. Hopefully next week the weather will be better so I can start doing some work. I'll be ordering a new battery for under the hood, a second big battery for the back of the truck which will give me a total of 4 extra batteries back there. I'll be ordering three 12" Phoenix Gold Elite dual 2 ohm subs. Each sub will be wired in series to 4 ohms and the three 4 ohm loads will be wired in parallel back to 1.33 ohms. I'll be ordering a Phoenix Gold Elite.1 amp and an Elite.4 amp also. I'm stoked. I also plan to order some of the Stinger 9000 series RCAs. :)

I don't suppose anybody has any insight as to in-dash units with the highest quality DACs? Seems nearly any deck over $250 uses Burr Brown DACs these days. Those used to be a commodity. Are there any DACs used better than the Burr Browns? Those used to be all the rage. I'm heavily considering using a Sony head unit in the new build. I'm looking at a Sony XAV-712HD. The specs don't specify what DAC it has nor did the manual. I asked my rep and he said Burr Brown. I hope he wasn't just making that up. Looks like a nice deck anyway. I've used the 602BT in customer's cars and liked it. That's the model down from the 712HD. Sony makes a NAV addon too that I'd proably get. I like having NAV built into the dash. It's a Tom Tom unit, which I also like.

I've been talking to Michael Singer about an alternator. So hopefully I'll have an alternator on it's way soon also.

The only other thing is the front speakers. I was going to go with the 38th Anniversary Edition set by Morel, but they're $3.500 retail. I think maybe I'll just go with the Elate Titanium 3-way instead at $2,000. This would also make it cheaper and easier to do a center channel, which I'm still wanting, but can't make up my mind about.

Also, the more I think about it, the more I'm wondering if going with 4 of the Elite 12s wouldn't make more sense. I always liked the novelty of 3, but I'm not so much building this system for novelty. I don't know. Just striking up conversation I suppose.

I hope everyone is doing well this morning.

OMG I can't wait to start seeing pics of this system!!

Sorry not much help on the head units, has Sony gotten better than what they used to be?
For awhile they were pretty iffy. that one you linked too does have a lot features though.

Yeah, they seem to be getting back on top of their game. You know, Sony used to have amazing decks. Mobile ES units back in the early 90s and maybe 80s. Sony also had digital cassettes or whatever they were. Then they went the way of Explode and all that garbage, but I believe they're finding their way again. Even their subs and amps are improving. I believe. Lol. The head units do look good though.

Hi Austin Welcome to the forum.
You'll get more help by starting a new thread with your issue.

Let us know what type of amp, subs, anything you can tell us about the system. It's hard to diagnosis when we don't know anything about it.

In-fact I have always liked such uniqueness but I'm not so much into modifying that much uniqueness. I don't know. Just stunning up discussion I assume.
