Help me decide on a subs for the Camaro
So I'm hoping I can get all my new stuff installed before summer this year.
I've decided on the sub amp I'm going to use, the mmats 1400 it will be small enough to hide it where I want but still have plenty of power for the subs.
But now I'm trying to find some subs, I was originally thinking about the FI Q Series. But I don't really want to spend $300 per speaker, and my system will not really be an all out SQ type system. So now I'm looking at the SSDs, does anyone have any experience with them. I have no idea about what options are needed either? What do they all mean?
Or does anyone have any other sub recommendations for me? Looking for 12's, that can handle around 1000W RMS.

Are you wanting to go sealed, ported, or IB through the spare tire well?
My vote is for one 15 IB through the spare tire well. It would require some cutting ;-). But low end and SQ would be amazing. And you could run a smaller amp. 300 to 400 watts would be all you need for a 15.
If you want to go sealed these two get my vote.

VERY well designed subs. With SQ as the primary concern.

It's going to be a sealed box, that is flush with the floor. (so I can easily put the tops back there.)
So a 15 is out (not enough room in the well).
How do those subs compare to the FI SSDs?
No faith Chris. No faith at all ;-)Chris from Washington wrote:So a 15 is out (not enough room in the well).

lol, what I meant was that the diameter of a 15 is physically too big to fit in the well space and sit flush. I would have to angle it or something to make that work and I don't want to do that. Plus my days of cutting the car for audio stuff are overJeremyC wrote:No faith Chris. No faith at all ;-)

I learned something I didn't know today. The Scan speak subs model REALLY close to my 1000$ Morel subs. They actually talk a lot about how it sounds compared to the morels, and how well it blends while still having the authority to play low.
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/mem ... oofer.html
Something I did know, and this will give you an idea about the design quality. The Alpine F1 series stuff was all rebadged Scan speak stuff ;-)
I haven't found much on the FI subs. Most of the reviews that come up on google seem more like bass heads and not the SQ crowd.
If it was me, and I was starting over, I would go with the peerless, or the scan. Both will work with the amount of power you have. Both work well in a sealed box, and the Scan hs a really low FS. Especially when using the passive radiator.
Thats actually another option. Get one of the Scans' and the passive radiator. It will give you 3db's of gain at the tuning freq (like a ported box) and save you money on subs, and amps.
If you really want 2 subs, and the amp you listed, then pick a sub that matches the box and gives you the lowest FS. Match the subs to everything else, instead of trying to match everything else to the subs.
What comp set are you planing?

I'm also going to be limited on the comps too.
The power window assembly in the doors is directly behind where the magnet would usually go. So instead I'm thinking of using a shallow mount type comp, that will allow me to still have a 6.5 in the door but not stick out too far.
Looks like Rainbow has some low profile 6.5's 2.6 inch mounting depth.
But they sure are expensive, so anyone have any experience with other shallow mount 6.5's
Then in the kicks I'll have a 5.25 and tweet. so whatever brand I choose for the doors, I'll match with the kicks.

Best 10 inch Subwoofers I know the page says 10 inch subs, but there is a good variety, with a wide price range. It might help you figure out what brand, style, and overall feel of sub you want.

Been working on the box whenever I get a chance, just takes forever!
Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have this stuff installed and hopefully it will be what I'm hoping it will be.
