In a recent post on budget 6.5" speakers, I noted the following:
in increasing order of my preference:
boston acoustics (sorry to see them go)
infinity (not the OEM system type)
diamond audio (very clear)
I have a new car (kia optima sport edition), and of course, wish to upgrade the sound system. Main music types do NOT include rap, but I like female vocals (evanescence, mazzy star, but old metallica and others are totally part of the mix), and often find piano and acoustic guitar (eagles, when hell freezes over) difficult to accurately reproduce.
I love a nice CRISP accurate bass thump to fill out the sound, but do that via properly engineered sub in the rear of the trunk. Yes, in my old car, I could shake the mirrors, but clean sound is king even at that level. I like clean, undistorted sound, and I'm in my 40's, not 17 (nor having blown my hearing with overuse of an ipod
Couple choices I see (feel free to add/suggest others). 6.5" speakers in front and rear doors (yes, dynamat or similar to be included!) along with in dash mid/tweeters and likely an infinity basslink II in the trunk (perhaps 2....).
Polk Audio db651s seem to be about the best fit at the moment (also more efficient, less taxing on HU or amp). under $100/pair
Diamond Audio D364.5 had these in my last car, and zero complaints. really solid. double the price of polk audio
Boston Acoustics SC65 (or SE65, whichever was the better pair!). price varies, but likely right in the middle of the other two.
Any suggestions or diffrent recommendations welcome. As for the polk audio, I have a "home theater set" I adore, and have excellent sound clarity, and very good staging.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance!!
