2000 buick century

Post by glassdonk75 »

I am installing my system in a 2000 buick century and need a little assistance. I was looking for a place to run my power cable from the battery but cant find anywhere to go through the firewall. Any suggestions?

Um if your 100% sure that there is no where at all for the wire to be run, then drill your own hole. But make sure your clear of any wires, etc on BOTH sides first. Also make sure you have a nice sharp bit! Then just place a groment in there and slide your wire throguh.
look harder though im sure theres an opening somewhere in that firewall that you can squeeze a power wire through :) .

You will want to tape up the hole so that it doesn't tear up the power cable (if you make your own hole that is).

Well thats what the grommet does for you, it acts as a barrier between the firewall and the wire so it doesn't get torn up. Plus it creates a nice waterproof seal so nothing will enter through that hole.

Yea, I almost said get a grommet, but that means he'd have to go out and get one which is only a few cents, but you'd spend more in gas going out there than you would if you used tape. heh

The tape will wear just like the wires shielding... :p

I have a 97 century so I know exactly what your up againt. THis car has NO PLACE to run the power wire through, you have to make your own.

Best place...

Pull the carpet away where the passengers feet are. You will see where the factory wiring comes thru the firewall. Go about 3-4" ABOVE that and about 2-3" OVER from it. This should put you right below the Alternator.

I made the mistake of drilling to low and went through a few wires and I had to splice up the factory wiring...wasnt to happy about that. Learn from my mistake and take that advice on where to drill... Double check also ;)
