If you want 2 subs use 2 subs. Your gonna decrease your output by using the wrong box with the subs. your better of going with a single sub either 12 or 15 in a proper box than a pair in the wrong box.

But its up to you.

See that's why I am here. Trying to learn something. So in reality a single 15" ported will put out more than a dual 15" sealed depending on sub used and box design? If I am understanding you properly.

Humor me on this one. If you were to design a ported for a single 15" sub. Could you change the front panel to use 2 in same design? Or would it need to be bigger to accommodate the additional output of the 2nd sub. If you understand what I mean.

you could but it wouldn't do much for you. adding a second sub in the same airspace would have negligible results.

Unless each sub had it's own port and airspace. Then the results would have an increased output.

Let's try and do it like this. The box sizes below are just an example and will vary with between different subs.

If one 15" needs 3.0 cuft, 2 15's would need 6.0 cuft (if they are sharing air space.)

You can put 2 15's in one 6 cuft box and have one common port (providing there's enough port area.)

15" type r can get just as loud as 2 12" type r's with a smaller box and less power.

A ported box can produce just as much sound quality as a sealed box and usually has more potential to get louder.

A 15" sub can sound just as good as a 12" sub if it's in the right box.

You should have Bill design you a nice box.

All of the above are facts.

Thanks for your info. I plan on doing so. Just trying to figure out what the best route that I can take.

What about putting 12's in a dual ported box vs a single 15 ported? Would the dual 12's be better than a single 15 or would it be the other way around still?

That depends on the box if the box was proper for 2 12's then they would most likely be louder.

Usually a fact but not always. Recently we have been finding smaller boxes with more subs plus shit tons of power is louder. One of the loudest boxes in the world right now is .44 cf per 10 (3 10's) and a port of 16" dia 20inchs long on 16000 watts.

porting a box adds about +3dB. The same increase as adding a second sealed sub would, so two sealed or one ported would typically be similar outputs (if the ported box is made for musicality and not purely as a one note wonder SPL box)

If you have two subs in one box sharing air space, they will have the same output as two subs in separate boxes, as long as both subs have the recommended air volume per sub. example, 2 subs in a 6 cu ft box, or two subs, each in a 3 cu ft box.

Personally, I'd just go with the single ported 15" sub, and properly power it and properly set up the amplifier. If the box is built well, and positioned well in the car, it will provide all the output you need, and then someif your intent is to listen to music, and not just go to competitions to burp the stereo for a 5 second burst of "gee I'm louder than you, aren't I cool?"
