I agree. Stinger HPM 1/0 is at ~$3.75 per ft. And KnuKoncepts KLMX Kable 1/0 is at ~$1.75 per ft. If ya do the mat it's $75 for a 20ft chunk of HPM vs $35 for a 20ft chunk of KLMX. My vote is saving $40 on a single run of wire. $80 on power and ground runs to trunk auxiliary battery.

I dug it out of the drawer. I got about 1' of it left. The rest went in the Saturn- thought I pulled it but didnt.
It does flex and move but not near as easy as the IOXS copper stuff I have (also from my drawer stash).
Another thing it does, which I forgot about. After cutting it and messing with it, the core bundles in the center worked out of one side a bit.
Again, the copper wire doesnt do that...
The picture sucks, but shows what its doing.

As highlighted in red. You were working with a 1' section. That 1' section is gonna cut differently than a 10' section. After all there is an extra 9' of insulation around the 10' chunk surrounding the wire causing restriction for the wire not to pull out.

Just something to think about.

Actually that 1' section is the remainder of the 20' I ordered. The stuff I used in the car did the same thing.

Its funny nobody commented 2 1/2 years ago:
http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/s ... stcount=13

And what I mean about the core wires moving:

There are multiple bales of strands, these round bales are then twisted together. The center bales, core, moves rather freely.
But I think I may have found the answer to why were are experiencing two different things.

The wire I used is "KLM" while the current offering is "KLMX". Its even labeled as such on the cable itself.

Obviously there was a change made somewhere. Interesting.

And as far as cost goes...
Theres a $.25 difference per foot between the 1/0 American Bass and the KLMX. I call that negligible. The 4 Ga American Bass wire is $0.09 less that the 4 Ga KLMX.

humm interesting, the specs and properties of the metals used in the wire is pretty much exactly what i'm learning about in school in my materials class.
As for the core of the wire shifting around- isnt that one of the reasons why thousands of strands are used instead of a few thicker wires? As far as i can tell, around the bend of the wire the outside of the curve will be in tension, while the inside of the curve will be in compression. Correct me if i'm wrong but isnt the wire designed to shift within itself to allow greater flexibility?

Correct, more strands aids in its flexibility.

The KLMX cable uses less strands of a larger gauge.

Im still interested to see what the difference between KLM and KLMX is. Hopefully I will hear back soon on that one.

Considering I live in BFE Iowa, the closest thing to American Bass is/was my car going down the street blaring Metallica, Slipknot, Megadeth, Rammstein etc... Oh wait Rammstein is German. So it's not quite American Bass, but at least it is on American soil. In other words American Bass wire is out of the question as they don't allow Internet sales. Unless you know something that I could not find by googling.

So I am stuck paying the price of Stinger OFC or go the cheaper rout of KnuKonceptz CCA. The amount of money saved on 1 20' section of KnuKonceptz KLMX will pay for the 2nd 20' length compared to Stinger HPM or PRO.

I guess I could go the route of some of the other brands. But from what I have read most of the other brands 1/0 is more like 2 gauge at best.

Oh btw. The MB QUART DSC1000.1 and 2 Shuriken ST-BT20's are on the way. Whoo hoo.

Please show this as fact and not your opinion. What gage does AB vs KNU use and how many strands. Do not quote something as a fact without proof especially if your an admin.

My preferred brands of wire are as follows, Kicker, Tsunami competition, Stinger, Hooker, If you have the money go with these. If you don't go with Install bay 1/0, Knukoncepts. My avoid list Raptor. This comes with experience and Ive had my hands on every single company I've quoted here within the last sixth months. I don't draw on anything but experience on stuff I've used. I left American bass of this list out of respect for Ryan's opinion i have not used American bass in about 2 years and when i did use American bass it was the same as raptor. I'm assuming from Ryan's recommendation that its a hell of a lot better. That is the last ill say on wire as to not derail your thread any further.

I would really like to go with stinger again. As I have said I have used it before and I like the wire. But I think I am gonna give KnuKonceptz a go this time round.

I looked at some of the prices of the others. They are about the same as Stinger or maybe a little higher (Tsunami Comp). Who knows. Maybe I'll regret buying the KnuKonceptz after I get it. But a lot of people recommend/use it. So that many people can't be wrong. I also know most recommendations are of personal opinions and such. Also that going pure ofc copper is actually better as far as electrical conductivity goes. But Price is not on my side anymore. Had to put new tires on car and truck. And truck needs all 4 ball joints replaced. So I need to scrimp and save where possible. Just found out about truck yesterday after putting tires on it. That's gonna set me back a few hundred. :argh

From Bill @ Knu
The KLMX jacket is slightly more flexible and the rope lay of the conductor was modified, but the two are identical in performance and appearance

Bill
Hmmm so even the Knu guy notes a flexibility difference... Hmmm I cant quite figure out why the rope lay would of been modified... ... ...

The American Bass wire is what it says it is. I made a huge stink about the Raptor JUNK awhile back:

http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/s ... ght=raptor

And just for giggles:
http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/s ... ght=raptor

:awesome:

So in closing... I was right on the wire I HAD. The new KLMX is different, so its not fair for me to comment on it as I havent used it. So I cant just group it al together... However the strand count part remains the same- less strands larger wire...

Anyhow... Good night.
