THat is why I was asking about the CD player, I wouldn't consider it without the CD player.
The 8455 I believe has no built in amp, which to me is good, but might not work for the OP.

Yes Sir no CD Player...falkenbd wrote:Is that the one with no CD player in it?
Is this install for competition in SQ... Then I agree with Joe... Can't use it.
or is it just a build for SQ enthusiasm... If so then I see no need for a CD player... you can get higher fidelity from Digital than you can from a CD...

Kenwood is making some great product lately. I didn't even think to go that route. Nice pick Bill!

I believe you can still get the same quality out of FLAC files if they are converted from the CD...
I would have to check that though...
For example... If you download and "MP3" from iTunes Store it is at the same bitrate and quality of a CD.
So you can get the same quality...
My mistake was saying that you could get better... The only way you could do that is by playing an original digital recording that is uncompressed... The amount of space that would take up would be not worth the digital compromise over the CD.
As a general rule, yes MP3's are lower bitrate than the CD counterparts, if ripped from CD's directly, but FLAC converted to OGG would yield the same results as a cd and could be played off of an i-Pod based deck.

I agree, you can rip your own music lossless. I do this often. IS your head unit capable of playing lossless off of the ipod?CaptainPioneer wrote:I believe you can still get the same quality out of FLAC files if they are converted from the CD...

Music from apple's store, are not the same bitrate of a CD. A CD is recorded in 44.1khz x 16 bits x 2 channels ... SO 1411.2 kbps
What do you get from iTunes? 256 kbps?
