The quest for 14's...

Truck Info:
1993 s10, single cab, short bed.
4.3 liter v6, automatic transmission.

Truck History:
I bought the truck from an old man, it was in pretty good shape and only had 102,xxx miles on it (now 106,xxx.) The interior was in good shape, the dash had a few cracks in it and the headliner was sagging. The body was pretty straight, but there was a dent in the passenger side fender and a little rust on the passenger side cab corner. The paint, ehhh, it needsedrepainted. Overall the truck was exactly what I was looking for, and the price was decent ($1,150.)

A few days after I bought the truck:

The quest for 15's.

When I bought the truck I originally planned to do a mild build up on the 4.3 and shoot for high 15's (in the 1/4 mile). I took the truck to gateway one tuesday afternoon (test n tune) for a few base runs. The goal for the day was to just get comfortable at the track and to stay under 17.xx.

Run 1: First time racing at the track (ever.) I wasn't sure exactly how good traction was going to be so I babied it off the line, mainly just trying to get familiar with things.

R/T: .768
60': 2.609
330': 7.270
1/8: 11.126
mph: 63.62
1000: 14.490
1/4 mile: 17.379

Run 2: I started feeling sick to my stomach and decided this would be my last run. I knew I had to get my 60ft times down so I got a more aggression launch. I should of launched harder because traction was wonderful, next time I guess.

R/T: .305
60': 2.450 (ehh, has more in it.)
330: 7.016
1/8: 10.858
mph: 64.02
1000: 14.197
1/4: 17.059 (MOTHER F*cker)
78.51

Got bored one day and removed the side molding. The double sided tape proved very difficult to remove, and the paint was bright under the trim, and DULL everywhere else. No worries, I have a plan.. More on that later.

Trim off, glue still one... boo!

I got an new cat-back exhaust put on, si/do flowsound with 3"x24" stainless tips. $175.00 installed, about half of what a flowmaster would of cost. I'm pretty happy with the sound. I think the flowmasters sound better at an idea, but the flowsounds don't get as raspy in the mid/upper rpm range. I disagree with anybody who says these sound exactly like a flowmaster. I think I like these better on a v6 (overall), but I don't like the way they sound on a v8...wierd, huh?

I picked up a cheap set of z28 camaro rims. The tires looked retarded, but don't worry about that to much.

Ok, so I couldn't stand to look at the double sided tape for another day. It was taunting me "hahahaha, you can't remove me". I then I knew, loose the double sided tape, or loose my sanity. A propane torch and a metal puddy knife did the trick.

The primer wasn't cutting it, so I shot over it with some matte black... It'll do for now!

Update 8-30-09

Did a little more work. Plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, oil change, new tires (205/65/15's Sumitomo HTR H4's), frontend aligniment, shaved the lips around the throttle body down and added an injector pod spacer (both part of the ulimate tbi mods, added a 160 degree thermostat and bumped the timing to 6 degrees advanced.

I ran the truck at the track on 9-01-09. Here are the new times:

R/T: .423
60': 2.507 (spun to about the 30').
330: 6.960
1/8: 10.702
mph: 65.45
1000: 13.981
1/4: 16.774 (finally out of the 17's, lol.. probably could of gotten a into the low/mid 16's with a change in the tire pressure)
mph: 80.51 (2 mph improvement!)

It has a lower 16 run in it...

Old faithful. It's been in about 25 cars now... Pioneer Deh-2300.

As any first gen s10 owner knows, the stock speaker locations suck. To fix this problem, I decided to whip up some door pods.

The install went pretty smooth. I still need to clean up a few things, but it sounds really good. Overally I'm pretty dang happy with it!

The racing season is over. Towards the end of the season I decided to drop a mild 350 in the truck, so I stopped caring about the 15's and moved onto 14's.

The quest for 14's starts.

I'm still working on the fine details. But here's what I'm planning for now.

Stock bottom end (block honed, new rings, new rod/main/cam bearings, etc, etc.

Stock LT1 Cam

1.7 RR.

Vortec Heads.

Eldebrock Intake.

454 TBI

Shit Kit

Vette Servo

Small Stall

8.8 Rearend

3:73 Gears

Posi Traction.
