components will give you okay bass, but nothing like a subwoofer. If you want good midbass up front you could put in like an 8" driver, that would provide good bass. Keep in mind components aren't designed/dedicated to play much bass, or frequencies under 80hz or so.NaughtyTegRoc wrote:Well guys- a friend of mine put in a set of JL's he had hanging around and they sound pretty dang good. However, I still need new speakers for the backseat and oddly they still sound pretty good but I know they are stock. Can you get good bass from component speakers (what's in there actually thumps fairly decent) or should I just leave those as is and go for the sub and amp now?
If whats in there is good enough for you now, Id just stick with it and go for like a single 10" or 12" setup and a smaller 600watt amp or so.
by the way, just thought of something about components. If you go for something like the CL61's, you will only need a 75wRMS 2channel amp. With something like EF's or HD's you will need over 150watts to each speaker. That will be more $ to spend, and if you dont have that extra money to spend you might be sacrificing SQ, by having to move to a cheaper brand.
just something to keep in mind. I used CDT's lines as an example, but it might apply to DD, JL, or whatever you were looking at.
