external hard drive @#$@

Post by loudwagon15s »

so last night while on my computer i accidentally dropped my external hard drive about 1.5 feet when it was caught by the usb cable. Now, nothing will load and its making ticking noises.....So i'm guessing its fried but it had about 7,000 songs on it!! anyone have any advice about where to go from here and what kind to buy next? Luckily most of my songs are on my ipod, but i did loose quite a few. Oh, anyone know how to retrieve songs from an ipod and put them on a computer?

Could it be something wrong with the cable? Can you take the drive out of the case and try it in a different enclosure?

Thats why I burn all my music and movies to dvd. You sould allways back up everything you want to keep. I have hundreds of dvds full of stuff.

hummm, idk about getting another one and disecting them, the only loss i had (assuming i can take the music off my ipod) is about 1 gig of music, and 20 movies, and the hard drive, so i may just go buy a new one, and start my movie collection again. either way it sucks to have that hard drive fail after such a wimpy fall

if it was reading or writing to it they are pretty fragile when they fall lacie makes some pretty good cheap external drives ive had a 500 gig one for 2 years. check geeks.com too they got some pretty good deals i think theyre having some sale right now.

get sharepod for your ipod you can upload music and videos to and from your ipod with it i keep it installed on my ipod so where ever i go i can copy music to and from peoples computers.

you can also open it up when it shows up as a drive on your computer then make sure show hidden files and folders is checked and manually copy them over but theyll be named some sort of gibberish and be spread out on all theses folders named f00 f01 f02 etc
