i have that same laptop sitting on my floor. i use it as a stoolJon wrote:That was obviously a battery that blew up on that one. Not too sure how that has anything to do with OCing your CPU.

I know Jon, I am just trying to make a point by over exagerating the possible outcomes from OC a CPU... I fried 2 Barton Core processors on my old PC by OC'ing... Granted I did not exactly know what I was doing but still lol...

Depending on the type of CPU you can unlock the Multiplier...William from NOLA wrote:Ideally the multiplier, but you can't do that on most chips because the multiplier is locked. FSB is the only other option and that can make the speed jump way up... but also stability down.
Almost all chips are locked though... Intel is especially noted for having locked multipliers... Still you can change the chip into an engineering sample if it is an AMD multi-core chip...
FSP is the best way to go if you can't do multiplier... And honestly, I don't ever mess around with multipliers... esp on $400+ chips... Too much of a chance of messing it up...

It's all about getting the most out of what you have. It's kinda like making a sealed box ported. It just takes a little work.Jon wrote:I never understood the whole OC thing to begin with. If you want X amount of processing power, buy that chip, not the slower one. The small steps between grades of chips is usually around $10. Buy the better chip if that is what you need.
