Shipping questions.

Post by MobileAudio219 »

So I've been shipping some parts lately and I'm really getting the hang of it now.

I'm shipping some door panels down to Florida, and I'm usps 6 day shipping.

Parcel Post® more info about Parcel Post
6 days 16.94

"Used for gifts and general merchandise, Parcel Post shipments may also contain books and other printed matter weighing 70 pounds or less. The maximum size is 130 inches in combined length and distance around the thickest part."

The door panels are right there at the max, the packing might just be enough to push it over the edge. I though about putting the door panels in a construction/garden trash bag, then wrapping the entire thing in packaging tape... do you thing that will work? I should be fairly stable, but do you think the post office will have a problem shipping it like that?

Any other shipping tricks people want to share? I have a ton of parts I'm shipping out, and plan to get more as well. So help would be a good thing... lol

Thanks fella's. Justin

I usually just run up to walmart grab some thin foam and some shrink wrap cover it in foam and then shrink rap the whole thing.

Shrink wrap, that sounds like a common sense approach! Good thing I have you guys or I'd be like..... ahhhh, ohhhh, uhmm, ehhh, doh, ray, me, how the, "shot gun shells, would that be all for you sir", chamber, click, boom, over.

Seriously, I totally didn't think about foam and shrink wrap.

Thank fella's!

Just checked ebay, you can get (4) 16" x 1500' 65g rolls for 47.99 with free shipping. I might have to do that.

Also need to talk to my buddy, his work (warehouse) throws away the rolls when they start getting low, so I can probably have him get me a few of those. They usually have a 100 or so feet on each one, and they throw away a few each night....

shrink wrap is also fun to wrap kids up with and watch them wiggle their way out.

I sometimes receive packages that are basically bubble wrap with a grey exterior. I don't see why a well taped up bag wouldn't work. I mean, there are orange mailing bags that look just like a hefty bag. I suppose it's all about who you get at the shipping desk.

I mentioned the shrink wrap to the guy, he strongly suggest the cardboard method.

Cardboard is going to make it really close to the max. dimensions the usps will allow.

I'm going cardboard, if it pushes it over the edge, then he'll get shrink wrap or nothing at all.

Tell him if he wants cardboard he's gonna have to pay extra for the shipping. Simple as that. ive shipped sub boxes in cardboard boxes and its ended in tragedy when i simply wrap them they get there fine.

You know you can ship by Greyhound also?

You just have to drop it off at a station and he has to pick it up at one also.

Might save some cash doing it that way.

USPS is very picky about their size limits. They dont like big things anyhow.

Yeah, I think the nearest greyhound place is about 40 miles, not worth it.

I'm going to try the cardboard method once, if that doesnt work I'm either going to cover the edges in cardboard and then shrink wrap it, or just sell it locally. I'm selling them cheap, so it's not worth putting a ton of effort in.

EDIT: Just checked grey hound, the nearest actual station is around 60 miles, and it'd be 36 bucks to ship.

If cardboard doesnt work, I'll try the shrink wrap. He can't take it or not, it doesnt matter.
