a few days ago mythbusters had an episode in which they tested to see if a certain rifle (i think russian sks) fired when exposed to high spl. their first test consisted of 2 12's w/ 1400 rms in a trunk :RE .....it sucked. so then they brought in a "competition vehicle" which consisted of a few mtx 8500 10's, and 2 22' jackhammers with quite a bit of power. the jackhammers hit a '160' on god knows what mic, then they smoked the ish otta them haha lmao. here's a link to the vid http://www.wisevid.com/view_video.php?viewkey=ee98c213154d26400aea
people be talkin tons of ish on smd about it haha http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=46450&st=80&p=651169&#entry651169
Now why would you point the end of the gun barrel into the car seat hoping it would go off shooting flames out and starting the truck on fire? That would have been funnier than the smoking woofer.
Where is the Mic set up? What kind of SPL Meter is that? It looks pretty high tech. Obviously its no TL but perhaps its the same stuff that NASA uses?? Plus they did use that sound lab place again.
The Test car... 160db? OK... Its a show car for MTX... why the hell didnt they just get Scott Owens there? They hold the record at 180.3 db
there is no way that thing could even come close to a 160 if they were to use a tl, even in the kick. Anyone see how much that crappy (and tiny) box for those jackhammers flexed? owell, at least the plexi put on a good show when those things
That was the problem... Its a SHOW CAR... Factory specs factory show off... its not a car BUILT for db purposes... Kicker has a truck thats just like that, however it probably doesnt go above 153 db...
On a side note... I think that the measurement for that truck may be accurate however I'll bet that the placement of the mic is where it comes under fire... I mean shiz.... my truck was able to hit a 149.6 with the mic pointed right in front of the subs... But when it was put in the TL specified location and a real TL it only measured 133 or something like that.
Like I said... If they were really trying to get a loud truck as scientific variable they should have gone with scott owens's Van.
That was an audio control display. So they were probably using the audio control mic that comes with it. So its about 6 to 7 db higher than a TL (if I remember correctly)
Add in location (I doubt they had it on the window) and your probably looking at a car in low 140s
Hell if you have that many speakers and that much power, and CAN'T hit a 140 you have problems.

Actually that record was beaten twice this year at SBN.
Craig Butler is now the record holder at 181.3 dB.
