Lay off?
Ok Im facing an almost certain lay off, with the option to just take it now and get it over with.
Right now they have us working 32 Hrs per week, with benefits. Trouble is with the amount of Child Support I pay out a month, my grocery, gas and "free" money is made the last 8 hours of each week. So basically Im working to just pay Child Support, Rent and Car Payment- with no money for anything else. Ive officially wiped out my savings over the last 3 weeks.
Im due a raise at work since November, but given the corporate climate I was given a final NO today. Even though Im deserving they will not give me the raise. They also will not give me the extra 8 hours a week, full knowing my situation.
So basically I was told by our company officials (who went to bat for me) that the owner of our parent company wont budge. Its 32 hrs a week as is. However if I want to be laid off they will oblige.
Now the real treat is Ohio goes off 20 weeks work. So the last 3 weeks Ive worked 32 Hrs, then 17 weeks at 40. So it will effect my unemployment the longer I work 32, the less unemployment I will get.
They dont expect to be back to 40 for about 3 months- "if" and order comes through they are anticipating...
So do i just take the lay off or try to keep working?

Dude it sucks trying to find a job out there, I would say start looking now and when you have a job, take the lay off.

I stick with your current job until you can find something better.
Then again, it might be the time you need to focus on your business???
It's hard to say, you know your situation a lot better than me... Just give it some thought and pray you make the right choice, thats all you really can do....
Actually, I edit this and make mention that I agree with Joe here...

Well thats good and all.
But its bleed me dry.
I know this is a very stupid concept and all, but Ive worked my self out of money again. Going on 4 weeks now where my weekly expense outweighs my income.
Beh. I think Im just taking the lay off and get it over with. Unless I can get a side job sorted before Thursday...
Otherwise Im just loosing money I dont have.

While I don't support taking the lay off, the choice is really yours, but lay off or not it's definitely time to start looking for something else when they don't want to pay you what your worth waiting on raises that you should have received on purely a time line basis.

The truth of the matter is, it's your choice. You know whats best for you and your family more than we do. As long as you can put food on the table and pay your bills thats all that matters at the end of the day, period.
We can offer you advice, but thats all it is, advice.
Good luck man, you'll make it...

Well its done now.

If I find something part time I can probably reclaim some of my work. I hope to find another full time job though.

If you find a part time job will it keep you from getting your unemployment?
I'd say milk it for a while, but I think the system's about tapped out.
I really wouldn't want to work part time, who wants go into work for only a few hours a day? Ehh, once I'm there I'm there, my plans are probably already effed over anyways...
I'd say the average shop price is about 50-75 bucks an hour, charge only 20 bucks an hour (since you won't have all that extra overhead) and you could probably rake in the customers. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of avertisement. In other words, take care of your customers and your customers will take care of you. :happy055:
