I believe the runner up pays like $360 a month.
The other guy (ex husband who is back living there) pays $100 a month (he only makes minimum wage when he works).
But eh. Nothing I can do.
Eventhough my pays going down by 20% I dont think they will adjust my child support unless its 30%. In which case Im going to voluntarily take another 10% time cut. Whats another 4 hours a week... Especially if I can save $150-200 a month...
Sounds like shes a lovely woman.

times are tough in michigan, my aunt and uncle both lost their jobs working for lowes and meijer in a period of 3 weeks. My mom's hours have been cut severely at k-mart, with a good chance of loosing her job in the next 6 months, and my dad works as a forklift operator in an auto plant. He's making top pay due to the 15+ years he's been there and now there is a target on his back, he's been suspended for bs 3 times in the past month and a half. But...there is hope, my dad found a locksmith job at my school (he has 10+years working as one) and if he gets the job 90% of my tuition is gone, and he gets full benefits, not to mention his colleage which lives an hour away from campus has a booming buisness working with artificial reefs etc and is practically begging him to come work down here in Fl. The problem is, i doubt my mom would ever leave michigan, i know that their marriage has not been good in the past 6 years, and the economy is no help. Hopefully the economy will at least level out or improve before i get out of college 3 years from now......doubt it tho

they always blame the guys in these situations. it sounds like you are being a father, but she isn't being a mother. she had just as much to do with becoming pregnant as you did.... it takes 2 to tango, why do you have to be the only one paying?

why don't you take custody and someone like your mother babysit.

Well I did a lot of case studies on divorces for a law class I took in school (Who would figure I would like it)...

I can't remember the exact number but i believe its close to 80% of marriages that go to divorce court the woman ends up with at least half of the income.

Many judges and lawyers have wrote articles and or prospectus writings on the need for reform in the courts to shift the favor away from women. Many are quoted as saying that jury's as well as lawyers and judges feel that women are portrayed as weak and need " protecting" because they can't do it them selves.

Oh well I hope that I don't face this problem... Pre Nup? lol

Oh fyi... look at Mel Gibson and his wife's up and coming divorce... She is going to get the better bit of at least 1/2 billion $$... does she deserve it?

Probably... She had 7 kids... And was married to him for 28 years... She deserves half probably... Maybe a little less. But still... At least it wasnt like the Mc'Cartney split or the other late night show guy... Those guys got F'd bad... thats just bad sympathy towards women and terrible lawyers not doing their job.

How in the hell did you get screwed (no pun intended) out of $450/month Ryan? Was your attorney screwing your Ex too? Wow! You know they can impute her at minimum wage, which is about $17k. This is what helped me when my Ex decided not to work in the thought that she would get more $$$. It ended up backfiring on her since the court said she was perfectly able to work, so they imputed her at $17k / yr.

I don't know what kind of money you were making at the time they hit you with $450/mo for one kid, but I get the impression that you are not making $80k/yr. I don't mean to dig into your private financials, but $450/mo is very very high.

Do yourself a favor and get a good attorney to deal with this for you. Even if you pay him a few grand it could easily save you hundreds per month. And make sure it is read into the record in a court so the child support agency cannot change it without another court order. This keeps the child support agency from arbitrarily changning your order at their beck and call. You will have a standing order that specifies a certain amount that cannot be adjusted without that court approving a change.

Also, what is your parenting arrangement? Do you have a shared parenting plan? If not, time to fight for that as well. You seem like a stand up guy and if you want to be a part of your kids' lives, you need the right to access their school records and other decision making rights that you may not have under a mother-held full custody arrangement.

This! :happy055:

That is the last thing you think about at 2 AM after knocking back 12 beers and rounds of shots and you have a chick taking your pants off. :bigwink:

Been there, done that.

Taking custody of a child as a father is very difficult in this area. I have been told by a judge and a magistrate that unless the my Ex came into court willing to give up custody, there is not much she could do in their eyes that would justify taking the kids away.

Hell, a guy here at work has a kid with a woman that has been in and out of jail and he can't take the kid away while she is in jail for 3 months for drug charges. The courts are super wack around here. There is little chance that Ryan could take the kids from the mom, unless the mom agrees.
