Economy finally hits home
The shady economy finally hits my home. Im not laid off but effective this week Im down to 32 hours.
This really hurts cutting away 20% of my pay considering child support will remain at 100%...
So needless to say Im in a word of hurt right now. Things went from good, to hard given the child support to whats next... Im not sure how catastrophic it will be for my bottom line yet. But I imagine things wont be to peachy...
Anyone else get hit with it yet by lay offs, reduced hours (under 40)?

Ryan I feel your pain bro. I dealt with high child support payments for years. I currently have that all worked out, so it is in my past, but the wounds are still fresh.
Have you talked to the child support dept in your area? They may be able to make an adjustment since your pay has decreased 20%. I don't remember the exact amount it has to change, but I think 20% is in that range, or at least pretty close.
Also, when was the last time you had a review of your case? You have the right to have it reviewed every 3 years IIRC, or anytime your pay changes a certain amount. Of course they are much more helpful RAISING your support if you got a raise

That sucks.
My area hasnt taken a huge hit, yet.
Just like everything else in life, the economy will eventually pick up, you just have to take the good with the bad.
It's not going to break you if you don't let it. Grab a second job somewhere and roll with it until things pick up.
I have faith that you'll make it through alive...
Good luck buddy!

My old man has been at 32 hours for quite some time now. His, and my stepmom's, only saving grace has been the fact that she got her RN degreen about 5 years ago now, and now is the lead nurse there, and picks up overtime like crazy.
Otherwise, they would be hurting as well.
Now, where it has really hurt is my fiance's dad. His plant closed up (Fostoria Industries) and headed down to Kentucky. He was the lead maintenance/maitenance manager, the safety manager, and something else. Fortunately he got a severance package, but he can't find a job to save his life. Whats really hurting him is that he is more than qualified for all of the positions he is applying for, but he doesn't have a degree.
So yeah, they are in a world of pain right now.

Im going to give that a go Jon.
My double edged sword is having two kids with two women. My frist and I have a court agreement for a set amount, but I know CS plans on reviewing me after 3 years and raising the amount to full (even though they shouldnt be allowed to). The other now, she got the full ride (she doesnt work at all).
But ya Im going to call them Friday.

I made some scarey choices a few years back that could have changed my financial situation for the better or not. They worked out but the mental strain it put me through really took a toll for a while. And though things are a little better for me in that sense I am making considerably less money due to the current economy.
I really feel for people that are going through a rough time. As I've been through it myself in my younger days. I've literally been homeless and wondered where my next meal would come from. I can tell you, I've skipped many meals. My dad was no help. He was actually a burden. He was and is a drunk. He threatened my moms life while she was at work in front of many of her co-workers. It was either give him five grand for the boat she sold after the divorce (which she paid for) or she's get it. I was just a little kid then but I planned his death had he even tried to take action. We had to sell our house which was paid for. (by my mom) I've completely disowned that POS drunk of a father. I can't believe I gave him more chances after all that. God I'm an idiot.
Back then my mom worked one full time job all the time and three part time jobs almost all the time. She once went job to job for four days on about six ours of sleep. Just naps here and there. I don't know how she did it. She's friggin' amazing. I know alot of people are going through tough times like that and I hope they all make it.

Thats the thing about having kids, you have to take care of them. Sounds like youre doing your part but she isnt.
How if she paying her bills? I guess if she has a family/boyfriend/husband paying her her half or whatever than it doesnt really matter, as long as it's getting paid.
Thats why you dont have kids until you are married, and you dont get married until you found somebody you're 100% sure about. If you ask for a prenup youre not 100% sure, it's common sense. If your not ready to get married, dont have kids. Sure, mistakes happen every now and again, but with condoms and birth control it's probably safe to say somebody was being irresponsible.
Both parents should be responsible. I'm glad you pay child support, theres alot of dead beat mom and dads out there.
It may take a second job, but you'll get through it.

Shes doesnt have to work.
She receives Child Support for four kids from 3 men. I pay her $450 a month+
I believe the runner up pays like $360 a month.
The other guy (ex husband who is back living there) pays $100 a month (he only makes minimum wage when he works).
But eh. Nothing I can do.
Eventhough my pays going down by 20% I dont think they will adjust my child support unless its 30%. In which case Im going to voluntarily take another 10% time cut. Whats another 4 hours a week... Especially if I can save $150-200 a month...
