Not a big Hunter. All about long distance competition shooting.

Bill I have kinda wanted to start doing that as well but Its expensive... And I hear that the Winchester 308 round is the favored long distance shooter... Problem is it costs an arm and a leg to get one of those rifles all spec'd up to be really accurate..

Any pointers??

Depends on the distance you want to shoot.

In ohio really we only have a few real long distance ranges. so shooting 100-500 yd's 223. is more than sufficient.

308 is a good round but its hyped a lot because a lot of police departments use it. There are plenty of accurate loads like 7mm Remington 30-06 Springfield 22-250, list goes on and on.

You can get a decently accurate bolt action rifle for a decent price.

This is a bolt obviously but your gonna need some optics a cheap scope for 500yds plus will run you at least 200 bucks.

However if you've never shot those kinds of distances get a cheap 22 and start at 50yds and then 100yds once you master windage elevation breathing target accusation and Arc of Man move up to the bigger rifles like the ones i mentioned.

Not only is decent 22 cheap, but the ammo is cheap as well. My cousin has a semi automatic, we'd paint human figures on pieces of tin and play assassin. :)

Thanks Bill...

My experience is as follows:

Shot a 380 Win Rifle Bolt Action from about a distance of 300 yds... 15yrs old in the Boyscouts... After a few times I had no problem hitting the target from 300 yds...

20 TO 12 gauge SG's for clay pidgeon shooting... I kinda suck at that now but i was decent when i was younger. Again Boy scouts...

Shot .22 At a range at a distance of 75 yds no scope... my eyes hurt after that but still didnt have a problem of hitting the target...

I definitely do not understand Windage or Arc Of Man principals at all... I just guestimate how far the bullet will drop from the first bullet shot and then visually take that into account...

I have only used scopes once and that was on that 380 Win...

I love the idea of having a Bolt Action soley for the purpase of long range shooting... Mostly because I don't have to go through that BS of Pistol permit and crap...

So I guess.... You would say I'm an uneducated shooter that is looking to pick off the money shot at distances of 500 and up.
