Racing brainstorming ideas

Post by Chris from Washington »

OK,

So looks like the car driving is working so far, haven't heard of any new bugs.

So now let's look at racing next.

I'm thinking it will be a drag race type of thing, so player 1 can create the race. He determines the bet amount, and then player 2 can be anyone who accepts the race. The gold is subtracted from each player and put in the pot.

Now trying to figure out how to do the racing.

I know I want the driving skills to be a factor, plus the type of car you have.

I'm trying to think of what the calculations would be.
maybe for example

(Horsepower of the car+any addons the car has+driving skills) - (weight of the car+weight of any addons)=?

do that for both players, and the one with the bigger number normally wins??

but I want some randomness too, like blowing out a tire or something to make them not so predictable.

Let's brainstorm on what we can do here, and hopefully I can figure out how to code it and make it work.

Maybe race for cash or pinks.Maybe add another stat where you use energy tuning your car.

use up turns + cash to practice at the track and earn driving skill

don't factor driving skill in equally with the "speed" potential of the car.

I could beat the worlds best driver if he was in a geo metro and I had a corvette.

driving skills will just be in addition to what you have for a car. Basically to give an edge with 2 people with the same car and addons. The one with the better skills will have the edge.

as for driving skills, I still need to add classes for that. Going to have general driving, truck driving etc. All these will boost your driving skills.

What if the driving skills only applied to each car instead of the person? Like a multiplier of sorts. That way, the more you use one car, the faster/better you can be at driving it.

I will also suggest a driver hours or something that will stay constant to the driver.

I say have a few different race types. Drag, circuit, street race, single race for exp only, and maybe a variation in each. A variation could be something like racing for a part or car instead of cash.

What if you could start a trucking business? You could do smuggling and all :D

hmm, that's interesting never thought of doing it that way.
So the driving skills would go with each car and then the hours would go with the player.

I like that. So really I can just rename what I currently have as driving skills to driving hours. Then create a new column in the car table for driving skills that go with each car.

I think for right now I'll stick with 1 race type, then once we get that working we can try another type :)

I still need to create an area for parts, and installing them onto a car.

I don't want that to get too complicated tho, still thinking about how to do it.

Another thing I'm thinking about is, if you sign up for a race. Allow the player to still use that car, since they'll have to wait for someone else to accept. But make it so if the car happens to be impounded when the race starts, they get disqualified and the other player wins. Have some sort of funny message or something about why they won.
