Okay well I had to go get my laptop and connection from the new house this morning, so here's the total story...
As stated by jgs07, the shop that makes the intakes got evicted... Explanation: They were having a new paint booth installed and had to have the EPA brought in to inspect the building, since they were there and the building shared space with a small mechanics shop, the inspectors decides to check that too. They find violation after violation and close the mechanics shop. Come to find out the kid that owns the shop they shut down was the landlords best friend's son... So pissed landlord evicts the shop that makes the intakes.
All this on top of the post office taking waaaaay to long just to get my check to him in the first place and as we all know me moving, making it difficult for me to do follow ups.

As for the guy with the trailblazer, it was one of those friend of a friend deals and supposedly another shop did this hack job... and while yes I did charge him $160, that paid for all his wiring (they had 8 gauge running a 4 channel amp and a sub amp off the rear fuse box terminal as just a taste), 3 propane tanks, 2 days worth of electricity.
The quote on the second day was "I'm gonna have to take my wife someplace really nice to dinner" as the only day he could get for his second day was My Wifes Birthday... Yeah she was pissed! And as some of you may or may not know I also own a housekeeping business that I've had for over 20 years and I still had one of those jobs that day too. Oh, I forgot to add in that my daughter's car had a dead battery that I had to fix in 30 to 40 below wind chill that night. So yeah with it being the coldest days of the year that he picks to come out here, sure it was still cold, but the salamander heater kept it above 40 degrees.
Is the guy pissed for me leaving him unfinished?... sure... Did he get what he paid for? Wayyy more! I still volunteered earlier in the second day to reschedule him again, but he wouldn't have it. So I say after warning him about how bad it was on sooo many occasions, the fact that he didn't drop the vehicle off (instead stays the entire time carrying on small talk) he didn't want to. So he got new wiring installed, front set of components, and rears for what it would have cost him on his own.
I call this one a draw and I won't do him any favors in the future as I'm sure he'll never want me to do anything again.

I didnt realize the intake was a fabericated piece. The word "custom" is thrown around some much these days I was just assuming you just had to order it from the manufacturer. I realize it takes time for an actual custom one off piece... I know your busy with all the moving an all, but it still probably freaks customers out when they cant get ahold of you... It's cool that you took care of him though. :happy055:

I dont think anybody is saying you were over paid...

Other than what you mentioned above, was there anything else messed up?

I hear you on the salamanders, we have one in the shop that burns kerosene only, its costly to say the least. We have a wood stove, but after moving a car in or out, the salamander helps take the chill off... Even just using it a few times a day its inefficent...

And hes back finally!

Sounds like the guy had a horrible schedule also.

You can tell the guy doesnt have much to go on, his main insult was about your garage and lack of heat.

I think theres a little bit of substance missing still, but eh. Live and let live.

Well other than power wire, they tried to use a crossover to integrate the amps into the factory system off the factory amp. They had a 2 channel powering all 4 speakers and while the rears were 4 ohm, the fronts were 8 ohm mids. They ran new wire up to the doors, but then cut it short and spliced it to the factory wire in the door to all the speakers. The ground was 4 gauge, but they ran it from one amp to the next and then to a body ground. Behind the radio it looked like they attempted to integrate there, but then didn't and just twisted the wire back and taped it. RCAs were daisy chained from one amp to the next rather than running separate for sub amp and speaker amp. and then a few other misc odds and ends that loose. What a nightmare.

As for the shop complaints, yeah it's a cluttered mess and I would have liked to had him on the nicer side, but the R/T was apart in there, so his vehicle ended up on the side where I normally do fabrications with all of the left over junk from my wifes last garage sale.
Yes it was very cold, but like I said the guy picked the coldest days of this winter to come out when we had -10 to -20 below temps with wind chills down to -40 and my lil salamander and electric heater still kept it at about 40 above in there, but I had to go through 3 tanks of propane for 2 days and you can imagine the electric bill that month after that.
Also as stated very difficult to try and work with someone carrying on conversation. He was nice and helped pay for pizza the first time out (cause he was hungry), again try getting anything done while eating (since he's standing there saying "Aren't you gonna eat?"). I was also under the assumption that he was going to drop off the vehicle as everybody else does, but obviously he didn't... And I should also point out that I even volunteered my Monte Carlo for him to use the first time out to go see a movie, get something to eat, or whatever to kill time, but again obviously he didn't.

Well I'm still in the midst of moving and my house is nearly vacant (pretty much only a bed, the microwave, and fridge), but I still have the garage to to go and then cleanup to try and get our deposit back and I have no internet at the new house yet so I probably still won't be around much for the next couple weeks till we get everything done, but I'll try and be less of a stranger when I get time (what little of that there is :p ).

Oh and you know it's actually kinda funny that Bill would be the one to start this thread, as this guy was from Youngstown (not to far from Bill) and I tried to talk him into taking it to him for the install to begin with, but he wanted to come out here and I ended up trying to be the nice guy since this guy said he had little cash for the install and couldn't afford what Bill I'm sure would've charged. Guess you dodged a really BIG bullet on this one Bill... And I guess I'm done being a nice guy on helping people that act like poor lil lost sheep on installs, cause it would seem that every time I'm the "Nice guy" it turns around and bites me in the ass one way or another.

Oh and I should add... I never did take my wife to dinner to make up for all this since we still had to work that afternoon and I had to go replace my daughter's battery that night and she's still reminding me how bad her birthday was :(

Lets be honest here, Your shop ain't really a shop its a garage not that it really matters, my "shop" is basically a big garage as well. :P although mine has about 90percent less shit in it as well lol. Either way sounds like a pain in the ass for both sides and an overall bad situation.

I think Mike summed it up prefectly.
Is the guy pissed for me leaving him unfinished?... sure... Did he get what he paid for? Wayyy more!
Niether side was really happy here. The customer tagging along probably did slow him down, but after the orginal hack job he was probably a little gun shy.

I'm the same way about driving other peoples cars (unless they're family or a close friend), because you never know when a thermostat is going to stick or something like that, then it can turn into a blame game.

Did the customer get what he paid for??? Ehh, techincally he paid for the install, which he didnt fully get. But on the other hand it sounds like he got his 160 dollars worth, if that makes any sense.

I can kinda see both sides of the story... Was a solution to make both parties happy??? There almost aways is...

And Bill (or anybody else) post pictures of your shop in this thread. http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/s ... ght=garage
