I just wasnt going to excuse him from the situation before it was cleared up...

my problem with that statement is that your not involved.
With that being said, its still not cleared up.
id encourage mike to tell all the naysayers to screw themselves and id handle it off board with the vehicle owner. i hate the damn internet. it makes everyone an expert

Dinner party?

Sounds like it was a bad day to work on a project that probably couldnt be finished...
but he did work on it. whether it got finished or not he did what he could.

oh and btw. i wasnt there either but mike is in a situation moving right now where he cant get online and it bugs me that lack of internet access at the moment is preventing him from saying anything to defend himself against all this.

I agree Terry.

The poor guy barely has enough time to pick up the phone then to deal with internet drama.

Im sure theres more to it.

And my comment you commented on... If you had a customer travel 2 hours to your store for a second time... Would you schedule them to come on a day when you know you have plans?

We all know sometimes things just dont go smoothly... It happens.

But...

I guess we wait. In suspense of course, lol.

it could be that time got away from him. if i had a customer in my shop for that length of time and im working on their vehicle, id prefer they drop it off and go somewhere. people slow you down when they are hanging around....

Without a doubt they do.

Sounds like the customer had very high expectations. Also if you read the trailvoy thread he says hes Bipolar. My experience with Bipolar people has been less than stellar. lol.

I'm pretty sure the bipolar comment was just a bit of sarcasm.

I'm sure he did have high expectations, people usually do when they are paying for work to be done.
my problem with that statement is that your not involved
MY problem with that statement is, he promotes himself as a business to the public online (like his section here on the forum.) When you do that, expect feedback good or bad...

We could all say well, he was busy moving so he can't answer your phone calls or keep you update on your transaction or the newer vehicles are harder to work on, he should of charged more.

But I think that would discredit the forum and the members saying it.

It takes 2 minutes to pick up a phone and update somebody, theres no excuse for it.. If he's moving or busy, thats HIS problem, not the customers... PERIOD!!!

Like Ryan said, don't collect on a job thats not finished.

That'll probably pee some people off, but thats the way I see it...

If it was a big shop that wasnt involved with the forum there'd be some different opinions I'm sure, which IMO is effed up... Friend or no friend, I call it how I see it!!!!

heres the bottom line. as far as your concerned in my eyes. i said it once before but you dont see it in all of your wisdom. you keep saying you call it as you see it but your not seeing the whole thing so shut the **** up about it. if you want to see where this goes and base your decision to do any future business with michael on what he has to say then thats fine. and plenty of people pay beforehand. its not uncommon for people to completely pay me for a job that i havent even started on yet. for some people its just easier that way. you ask for a deposit and they just give it all to you. and as far as whether or not i have any credit or not with you personally, you are welcome to stop by any time in the real world and leave the internet behind so, regardless of how you want to take what i say about whether or not some cars are harder to work on. i have built show winning vehicles and i am well respected in my area and have other shops call me to ask how to do things when they get stuck on something. im not hateful at all to the other shops. i firmly believe that there is more than enough work to go around.

We can disagree on something, but don't tell me to STFU and I won't tell you to. It's called a debate, if you don't like what I have to say, skip past it or hit the back button...

It's not uncommon, but if you say I can install it for X amount, you either do it or give a refund (atleast particle.) I dont know, but it seems like once you get it apart you'd know something isnt right, you either put it back to how it was, or explain to the customer its going to take more time and money??? It seems simple to understand, maybe it only makes sense to me????
and as far as whether or not i have any credit or not with you personally, you are welcome to stop by any time in the real world and leave the internet behind so.
I'd still do business with you. If bought something and a month later still no product or contact/updates... then yeah, I'd be pissed!!! Horrible of me, I know!!!
regardless of how you want to take what i say about whether or not some cars are harder to work on
I never said that some cars arent harder than others. Re-read what I wrote, I said it's his job (mikes) to know the car (or atleast the make/model) before giving a qoute. If I called a shop and said I needed an h.o alternator installed and they qouted me $100 bucks, but once I drove 2 hours to their shop they changed it to $300, I wouldnt be real happy...

And I know the car was hacked and that changes things, but inform the customer ASAP and let them decide if they have the extra time and/or money... The outcome would probably turn out better than doing half the job and then saying "gotta go to dinner, see ya"

I dont really have a reason to question your work or your character... If a thread pops up "has anybody seen smoker/terry" and then another one reading "explain this" then I'll call it how I see it....

I don't want to argue with you. I see (but not necessarily agree) with you point. Let's just agree to disagree???

im only pointing out that you dont have mikes side. that you claim to be a fair person who will call it as they see it regardless of who is involved yet your ready to string up a man based on half a story. i think also the story doesnt reflect the fact that the 160 for the install also included all the wiring and the massive flatline....
And I know the car was hacked and that changes things, but inform the customer ASAP and let them decide if they have the extra time and/or money... The outcome would probably turn out better than doing half the job and then saying "gotta go to dinner, see ya"
the customer was there the whole time. he knew what was up. the dinner he had to attend was on the second trip out. i think the guy would appreciatte him working on it when he could and gettin what he could get done even though it put his marriage on the rocks for a day. try telliing the old lady your working on a weekend when its her birthday...it dont go over well. also apparantely saturdays are the only day this guy could do it as i understand.

it shouldnt even be a debate, i think its pretty wrong that what went on between one guy and michael is out there to begin with. there are more people on here who have had great experiences with him than this one guy who feels he should have had a better experience than he did, even based on the fact that the car was hacked to begin with.

regardless, im done with this topic. suffice it to say, ill call it as i see it
, and say that if you are willing to crucify mike over this and you dont know his side at all, then id think you want to question your own character.....
