The Move
The Move
I talked about this a little in the "shop" thread, but now it looks like it's official that we will be moving and taking over my daughter's house.
I have no idea where everything's going to go and on top of all the work of moving I'll have a ton of work cut out for me, but by the time I get done when the housing market starts to bounce back the house should be worth a lot more.
It still won't be till probably March when we're moved in since my daughter and her fiance' still have to find a place to move (somewhere halfway between here and Detroit as that's where he works and she will too as of Feb. 20th)... So they're starting the house hunting now and hope to be moved in by the 20th.
We still have to give our landlord 30 days notice also so we'll probably do that on Feb. 20th as well (20th of every month is when our rent is due).
The upside: We will finally be buying a home and since we're doing an owner financed contract with our daughter we'll only be paying her what she just refinanced for last month and her's is a fixed 5.5% rate with payments including taxes and insurance. So we'll be saving on what we currently pay for rent (payments a lil less), but also save on gas, electric, and water (she pays about half of what we do for all these. Plus the taxes include trash pickup, so we save not having to have our own service.
The downside: I will miss having property and privacy... Our last house was on over an acre and our current rental place is on over 4 and we're moving into Toledo to a 1/4 acre lot with neighbors all around (Nice neighbors, but I'll always be afraid I'm bothering someone).
The other major drawback is the downsizing of the garage from the 2 story beast I have now to a 2.5 car. It does have a screened in bump out on the side which I already told my with I was going to enclose to give me tool space, but I think I'll still have to add on.
The other minor drawback is that we will have our oldest daughter living with us. She lives there currently and doesn't have the funds to move out on her own, so she'll continue to stay there with us... Don't get me wrong I love my kids and would do anything for them... I just really never thought I'd have an adult child back at home with us.
Other than that like I said, I will have a ton of work cut out for me... Here's the short list so far:
-Put up privacy fence for dogs
-Put in half bath in basement
-Finish basement (waterproofed last year)
-Buy and put in new dishwasher
-Buy and install new garbage disposal
-Replace kitchen sink (already have new one to put in)
-Enclose garage and front porch
-Build shed
I know there will be more to add to that list, but those are all the ASAP things.

You met both my daughters when you were out here with your daughter last year, so I guess it would still be confusingRyan from Ohio wrote:Is this the Chef daughter?

And yes, it is the chef daughter that would be living with us... She had a really good job as the Executive (Head) Chef down at the Toledo Club until they hired on a new general manager that brought his own chef with him (both homosexuals I might add... Kinda convenient when your boyfriend's a chef and you take over as GM). So she found another job at Fifi's as a line chef, but they don't pay her nothin of what she's worth (Hell she could get slightly better pay at the Waffle House, but that wouldn't look as good on her resume).
As for the shed, I was thinking about just building a little 8' x 8' (or 10' x 10') like this:

^ I could build something like that for a few hundred
The move isn't far... Only about 4 miles from us now and it's JUST inside the Toledo City limits on Joyce Ln. (off Dorr St. next to 475/ 23)... Hey at least there are no neighbors behind us... Just a nice lil tree buffer between us and the freeway.

^ Yeah don't I wish... My daughter never cooks at home... especially when my wife's around (I guess she'll always prefer her Mom's cooking).Ryan from Ohio wrote:So ya... The next build @ Mikes place will come with gourmet dinner.
My cousin who is a professional contractor has already volunteered to help me with a lot of these things on the "to do" list, so I'm sure between he and I we can get this stuff knocked out pretty quick as long as soon as I've got the funds for each of them.
And It's not far of a move at all... About 4 miles... Just kinda sucks that it's during winter.
And Tim, we decided to ditch the forum idea for now as we were running into to many glitches and just put up a blog style homepage (see my sig)... That reminds me too... Since I already use CAC as a home forum, I still need to throw a link up there.
Tommy's build keeps getting pushed back and probably won't be till springtime now after I get the new garage done... On an serious upside, I will be installing the woodburner in the new garage... so between it, the little propane torpedo, and the radiant heaters I will never lack for heat in the garage :happy055:
Now I just got some serious fixing on the stuff I'm selling so I have funds to do stuff at the new place... A run down of what needs to fixed now so I can sell off:
- Volkswagen Golf GTi VR6 ( This one has been signed over to me to fix and sell and I keep half the profit)
- Dodge Stealth R/T (Use the money from the VW to finally get this one back in shape as it will be the one thing to give me the most funding)
- International Tractor with snowblower attachment (This thing is just way to big for the new yard and I recently picked up a Craftsman 30" rider that will work perfect for the new place)
- Couple gas weed eaters (since the yard's so small I'll probably just buy an electric or rechargeable)
- A few bicycles (acquired though some trades and most just need a tire or 2 fixed)
- walk behind lawnmowers (I've got 3 and am only going to keep the self propelled Honda for the new house)
Hey Ryan, I'll probably be getting in touch with you about the old Harley your uncle was interested in too.
Kinda sad getting rid of toys

To run right it needs the coil pack, wires and plugs... It also needs a new instrument (dash) cluster cause the speedometer and tach don't work (although I'm only going to concentrate on getting it running properly to sell).Ryan from Ohio wrote:Whats up with that Golf?

He's not sure about the sound system yet either... May still want it in his new car (possibly sell with car or separately... I should find out today).
If it's just the car alone (no sound system) after fixing it will probably go to the first with $1500 if with system probably $2000 (He's got well over $1500 in the system alone).
It will run and drive now, but sometimes doesn't start and runs rough (throws code for number 1, 2, and 5 cylinders not firing properly... If I could find a buyer as is (without fixing coils/ plugs/ wires) It would go to the first $1000 without sound system.
Ryan, sending you a pm.
