So my cousin calls me and says...

Post by MobileAudio219 »

Find me a durango that needs some mechanical work... something around a grand!

Later that day I'm driving down to my uncles and out of the corner I see a durango sitting on a trailer... so I "flip ah b*tch" and go back and inquire about it...

It's a '99 durango, 5.9, auto, 4x4 with 140,000 miles on it, and it needs a transmission... The guy wants 1200 bucks for it...

So I call my cousin and tell him to go offer the guy 800 bucks for it..

He ended up getting it for 1,000... Not horrible, but I could of got it for 800. :scorp:

It's in real nice shape, runs real good, I believe its a 1 owner (now 2), but jesus, the transmission in these things are JUNK!!! It does have new(er) tires, alternator, ball joints, tie rods, belt, brakes, ect...

We going to put a hifonics 1600 and a 2 15" re se's in it here in a few weeks when he gets his taxes back...

hell thats a great deal!
I have the dakota 05 2wd and I'll be damned within a week of owning it the tranny is messing up. Carmax will be fixing it for damn sure but just agravating.

Wish I could have found a deal like that with the time to swap the tranny. Should be an easy job and great vehicle!

Dude, those trucks or HORRIBLE for tranny problems.. It's not uncommon to hear about trannys dying before the 50,000 mile mark...

I really like the dakota's (97-04), but if its not a stick, its a p.o.s...

I'd get it fixed and trade it in on a manual transmission asap... :sad017:

I'd also check out your transmission cooler, I heard that on the dakota's/durangos they like to plug up, resulting in tranny failures...

Yea I know, found out the tranny's were bad after I purchased it.
No biggy,I'm going to upgrade tranny cooler and check a few things out.

Still have 20k left on factory warranty for driveline after that it'll have 70k miles...hopefully won't give me too many problems.

Knock on wood

Hate to say it but hell theres always something wrong with every vehicle out there it seems unless its an import. Everything has its weaklink.

what trans's arent shit anymore?? the trans's chevy uses are junk. they use the same 4l60e trans in all of their light duty suv's/trucks as in their full size 1500 truck. with the weight of the 1500 truck they dont last worth a damn.....

Umm... dodge and Chrysler are known for shitty trans at 70k they almost all go. however i agree with you on the 4L60E that's a piece of shit for a truck. I have the 4L60T in my buick and im praying it holds together. the imports have problems 2 not quite as many as the 90s and early 00 domestics but Gm has made leaps and bounds in quality and some of there latest cars actually rate higher than the imports. Ford has done very well 2.

Atleast with the 700r & 4l60e you could rebuild them to be pretty damn reliable for next to nothing...

Every car has there fault, even imports... You just got to pick one thats cheap and easy to work on... thats why I like mustangs, rangers and s10's!!!

Bill, check your pm's...

actually i think you are right with GM having better quality now.... at the dealership, i really like the new cars. The drivetrain that they are puting in them seems pretty stout. The brand new trucks now have a 6 speed auto and good power engines. On GM's heavy duty trucks though, from years past, they seem to hold up. They got the big beefy 4l80e.... which holds up to a lot of power.
