'04 Civic Sedan

Post by thebigo »

I sold my last car in june, and since then I fell out of the car audio scene for a while, but now I'm able to put a system in my car, and I've got a few questions...

1) What would be the way to put the subs in my trunk for them to be the loudest? I've read about porting through the rear deck, but I'm not sure how to do that and if it is even the best way to do it.

2) What would be the highest amount of watts for me to be able to draw before I have to get a new alt.? I'm sure you probably need to know about my alternator, but maybe someone has done this already and knows...

3) Any tips on installing in a civic? I know there are a lot of experienced people here, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Honestly this ^ is where you will come into the biggest concerns if you're aiming for good SPL numbers... Your stock alt is only a 70 amp and while adding a good under the hood battery will help along with the big 3, anything over 500w rms is really going to put a serious drain on your electrical system.

As for the enclosure design itself... Does the backseat fold down? If so you'll get more out of that then porting through the deck.

Civic's suck period (Trunk version). loudest one ive ever seen did a 149.8 with 2 12's countless hours on the box and 2 5000wrms amps. Good luck! only advice i can offer is if you just want loud sub back port back. if you want spl buy another car lol. you should be able to do about 800 watts before causing damage but your still pushing it. add a second small battery in the back and you should be ok to 1200-1500 for occasional bumping. if your playing constantly a second bat and the alternator replacement will be necessary.

I dont think hes going for all out spl, I think he's just looking to get the most out of his system, to use as a "daily bumper"

It depends on youre budget, you could get a decent 15 (like a RE SE) and run it in a good ported box with about 600 watts and it would probably do what you need it too..

Then again, I have no clue how tall your trunk is, so you might want to stick with a 12".

Give us some dimensions, rather or not you care about sq (or if youre going for all out spl), and a budget and will find something for ya...

Yeah, it's a daily driver, and I'm trying not to have to upgrade my alt. and all that. I already have equipment, I just need to build a box and install everything. I'm going with 3 kicker compvr's on a 600w hifonics amp and 2 front speakers (maybe 2 rear, not sure yet) at 55w each. I kinda wanted to build a new back ledge, but it is one large piece of plastic, and it looks like it'd be way too hard for me to make a new one, and it probably wouldn't look good at all. I have people in my back seat a lot, so I don't want to go with pulling the seats down just to make it louder, I want it to always be that loud...

Well you could port through the rear deck where the rear speakers would sit, but I can tell ya right now it's always gonna be louder with the back seat down.

ok, thanks a lot. 1 more thing. I have these subs ( http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DCVR102 ... l_info#Tab ) and im gonna buy a third. they are DVC 2ohm subs. To wire the 3 to 1 ohm, should i buy the third one 2ohm or 4ohm DVC? And they only have 400w rms subs for sale, and i think the ones in the box were 200w each (which made the 400 total), would that cause any problems?
