Wow, another U/A thread
So I watching the show right now and they are doing a tahoe or something, painting the complete interior blue with spray paint.
I've personally used krylon to paint bezels pieces and small stuff that doesnt see any abuse with great results, but to paint a whole interior??? Come on, that's going to flake/scruff right off... Like it was doing on the dash they painted...
They do some nice work, but every time they break out the spray paint I cringe...

I used that stuff in my Monte. What a mistake. The Blue was terrible. The white was OK...

I've used the blue in my cousin 00 dakota, we painted his radio bezel and it came out really nice... I wouldnt use it to paint anything much bigger though.Ryan from Ohio wrote:I used that stuff in my Monte. What a mistake. The Blue was terrible. The white was OK...
Spray paint has such a small spray pattern that it's hard to paint bigger pieces and not tiger strip it...
Pieces like door/kick panels that see abuse will NEVER hold up though, never ever, ever...
He kept the dakota for about 2 years after we painted the bezel, and it held up great, but it wasnt touched or abused either...

Ya I used the SEM plastic paint in the Camaro, and so far it's holding up. I've been taking the pieces in/out of the car over and over working on stuff. Every once in awhile I'll scratch it, but overall it's pretty good stuff.smoker wrote:could be they used sem spray and its intended for that purpose

I don't know, with peoples legs rubbing against the door panels, feet hitting the kick panels, ect... I bet it wouldnt last that long in a car that was driven regularly...
They were having seriously problems with the paint on the dash, they had to redo it a couple of times.
It showed them painting the pieces INSIDE the car, without anything being taped off...
I'll try and find out when the eposide is replaying so you can see what I'm talking about...
And I know, everyone has their bad days... But in every eposide theres something being rushed, and these people are surely paying good money to have the job done right...

I've used both the SEM and Krylon and have to say for hard plastics (if it's properly prepped) the Krylon will hold up for a longer time IF you used a couple coats of clear over top of it.

Yeah, the krylon is pretty good stuff if prepped right. I've only used it on hard plastics, I dont think it would fair to well on soft materials.
I used the SEM paint on my sail panel tweets. There is a fair amount of work that needs to be done for it to look/hold up right.cargodz wrote:I've used both the SEM and Krylon and have to say for hard plastics (if it's properly prepped) the Krylon will hold up for a longer time IF you used a couple coats of clear over top of it.
The parts need to be sanded smooth and primered, and the can will tell you wet sanded, and then shot with color.
I did it according to directions and I had great luck, with it. but it is in a little to no traffic area,
Like the others I wouldn't try very large pieces, but with small parts and the right prep work, it works pretty well.
