I've found if you bring it up jokingly you can get a better feel for what they plan on...
They ask: "What do you think you're worth?"
Response: "Well I think I'm worth 10 million dollars, but I'll settle for increments of $20hr till I get there for now."

This helps bring some levity to the conversation and should get you a decent response like: "Is that all?" or "We were thinking about this number" and you can work it out from there.

Hmm, maybe they think you're just a little to relaxed, and that you dont work hard enough?

Theres two types of people in this world, the ones who kiss ass, and the ones who DONT get good raises.

Cargodz, your absolutely correct.
I joke around like that and it seems to help break the ice or tension if there is any and just lighten the mood overall.

I dunno at the end of this week I believe is my 90 days and I'm gonna be like "on thee 90th day God said let there be a raise" or something lol.

Yea, before I sound super lazy when I worked commission last time it got to the point where times got rough and I was working 100+ hrs a week. I got burned out really bad so I'm kinda scared to go back to that. I've had one really good job with commission and one bad. So...but wow 3 pages...thats sad :(

You havent been there 90 days yet?

Dude, no offense at all, but if thats the case I wouldnt reccommend biatching about youre pay anymore, by doing so youre just creating a very bad vibe and image for yourself.

The first 90 days are the most important, thats when first opinions are made, and if you spend it complaining the whole time that you don't make enough (even though that was the agreed starting pay)... Well, you might not have to worry about the 6 month review...

Asking for a 5 dollar and hour raise (roughly 40%) in the first 90 days isnt going to set fourth a good impression, or atleast I wouldnt think so...

Dude you are full on right. Micheal made a good point too, if he has proven himself in his work.

The first 90 are so crucial, we get people in our dept. at work all the time who don't make it past the first 90, because of reasons like that. The pay is not the more prominent issue in our case at work, but still in the probation period you really gotta watch yourself. They watch everything you say and do.

And one thing else I have found out, is you gotta weigh your pay out with the amount of work you do. 2x the money is probably 2x or maybe 3x the work.

Even so, 40% is a HUGE increase in pay.

I'm not saying he dont deserve it, he very well could! I'm not trying to put him down, or be negative, thats not my goal... I'm just trying to be realistic!

It's hard to prove yourself in 90 days. I wouldnt get offended if you got a 50 cent raise after 90 days.

My uncle was a diesel and heavy truck mechanic for Schatz Underground Cable and after over 20 years I think he MIGHT have been at 20 bucks an hour.

I understand, we'll see what happens.
Today I had to litterally save a kids life because he was taking a brake chamber off with it pointing at his face.
This kid makes a large amount more than me and he doesn't even understand simple safety concerns. I was told by my boss that I had to train him. Trust me if I don't get a decent raise (maybe not the full thing but it best be close) I'll just go elsewhere. My work speaks for itself, where I say I don't work hard. I don't, I break a sweat and keep moving at a good pace but its not commision I'm not jumping over ropes to make that extra dollar.

I hope that makes sense, I appreciate the concern and the heads up about bitching/complaining. I keep it down to a pretty good min at work just here I vent a lil more.

Exactly, if the job isnt providing what you want, look else where.

I'm not saying that you arent worth whatever youre asking, I'm just saying that from the sounds of it youre particular company isnt going to step up and give it to you.

I'm really bad at putting my thoughts to paper.
