Well see I use to make 19/hr before I got a/c certified and got my CDL.
When I took this job I had been out of the diesel industry for almost 3 years. So I accepted a pay that honestly was insulting to me but I was working at wal-mart for 9.50/hr and 14.75 was more (susposed to be 15 but apparently someone screwed up typing somewhere). Anyways, I told my boss I would accept it under one condition that at my 90-day review I was able to get a considerable raise without any trouble if my job merit warranted it.
I have a peice of paper stating everything and what not. I told my boss if I didn't get at least 19/hr I was looking else where for employment and he agreed that if corporate wouldn't at least give me 19 I should be able to get a job making that easily.
So yea I'm feeling aight about asking for 20 or hell maybe more. At the moment I'm one of the highest qualified mechanics in the shop and most are making 17-18 dollars an hr. I'm at min above them in a whole lotta ways.

Honest, it doesnt sound like they're going to give you 20+/hr. I'm not saying you dont deserve it, I don't know how skilled you are, or how good of a worker you are. Around here diesel mechanics make roughly $15.00 an hour, your area could be alot different.
I just don't see them giving you a pay increase of over 5 bucks an hour. If theres other similar jobs in your area paying 20 bucks an hour, then I'd start putting in applications.
If you think they're mistreating you then you can try and fight it, but with a smaller company you're probably screwed, unless you're part of a union.
I don't want to sound like an ass, but if you go in demanding a 40% increase in pay there probably going to fire you, ecpessially if they already think you whine to much about your pay (not saying you do.)

You can do pretty well with flat rate, or get completely screwed. It really depends on how busy the shop stays, and how fast you are.ZeroAccess wrote:No its understandable
Company is pretty large...the largest kenworth dealership chain there is.
I dunno, one more week and we'll see I got an offer for 28/hr but its flat rate. Which is a commision of sorts.
I dunno we'll see how things go.
I like working off book time, but also know it can kick you in the ass...
If you think you'd be happier there, I'd go for it.

I use to do commision and made around 60k/year
I'm a lil outta shape right now but I'm sure the idea of money would help me get into better shape.
I'm gonna see what they offer me at the dealer and just go from there, at least I know I have some good options.
The shop that is offering flat rate is a HARD shop to work at but the guys typically average 50 logged hrs a week in a 40hr work week.
So I mean I'd be bringing home over 1k/week but just really really hard work whereas now I'm really relaxed and don't have to work that hard.
If I can make enuf money at my current location to help me enjoy the time I have at home IE: get a new vehicle and a project to play with I'm gonna prolly stay.
