Agreed, impaired is impaired.

Theres was a trucker in St.louis here recently that came off the on ramp and drove straight into 8 stopped cars during rush hour.

He was looking for his phone.

They're taking no legal actions against him..

If we are gonna get on the impaired argument, texting, stoned, drunk, all are impairments one way or the other. What about driving while eating?? Technically you are distracted, albeit a different way.

But where do we draw the line??

Sure we are! If we fail to wear a seatbelt, endangering noone but ourselves, we'll get pulled over and will have to pay a fine of $15-20. All the "Click it or ticket" bullshit TV commercials "Cops write tickets to save lives"....What happens with stuff that's actually relevant to the safety of others on the road, aka headlights, taillights, brakes, bumpers, mufflers dangling by a coat hanger, truck tailgates let down with loose cargo rolling around in the bed, tires worn down to the threads, etc? Usually a casual warning IF they get pulled over for it. A guy can ride by in a car with the brakes audibly worn down past the wear indicators, that lovely screeching metal to metal contact, you think cops give a rat's ass about that? No sir, we'll just stick to getting easy revenue from things like seatbelt tickets and ridiculously low speed limits.

Thats one of my favorite things about germany. You have to take car of your car, or it won't pass inspection. I do think their rules about window tint, performance mods, and such, are to much, but your car HAS to be road worthy, or they won't let you drive it.

So true, and same for me and anyone and everyone I know that smokes pot. Most people I know that smoke regularly are people who hold solid jobs and in high positions whom you'd never think would smoke marijuana. Just a few off the top of my head: two business owners, a few company managers, a dentist, a pilot. There are so many more smokers than you'd ever know, they just can't be open about it, obviously.
And to be honest of course I know about 3 people who smoke everyday and pretty much waste their lives. But in my opinion as a psych major that's because of their parents, childhood, etc. The drug is not the reason for their apathy towards life and the law. They all have divoriced parents, they were in trouble with the law even before high school. I mean it's obvious. The drug is just a catalyst, not the cause.
And yeah one thing people who don't smoke or have never smoked ALWAYS say is "oh it slows your reaction time and impairs driving"
But if you've ever driven stoned, you know it actually does the complete opposite. You actually develop paranoia and pay MORE attention to your driving.
"Oh shit am I driving bad?"
" I better use my blinker everytime I need to so I don't get pulled over."
" OK keep it at 30, don't go over 32, you know what? just put cruise control on"
If anything its dangerous due to INCREASING your reaction speed, maybe reacting to something that wouldn't actually happen but you do just to be safe because of paranoia, or overcorrecting. Lol I'm sorry but the slowed reaction speed thing is BS. It was probably true in 1 government funded study 20 years ago where 3 out of 20 participants who'd never smoked showed delayed reaction times. Statistically significant? Of course... for the government. Time to publish it. Honestly if you read the studies that's how most of the government's info. on drugs is. And don't even get me started on the pharmaceutical companies and prescription drugs. They are the worst.
