blew another sub

Post by loudwagon15s »

well, i blew another EA SQX i think its because it unloaded on a screwdriver that i left in the box :banghead :banghead. No burning, no smelling, no smoking, but it dropped a coil, and if you lift the cone a bit, you can see that on the last winding of the vc, about 1.5'' of the coil has come unwound. Is the thing trashed, or might it be possible to carefully take apart the sub to try and fix it. Last time this happened i was able to get a killer deal on a new sqx for 100.

Call EA you may still have a warranty. there is no way to fix that without a new coil. you can try to soldier it and epoxy it but it wont last. the soldier becomes a resistance point gets hot and melts. plus you would have to re epoxy the entire coil.

Wow man that thing is a goner. I dont see how a screwdriver left inside a box would do that unless it was pressed against the cone not allowing it to move...

anything can cause a cone to unload if its on one side and not the other. especially in a high velocity spl box. thats one of the biggest problems we had in the buick. the bottom angle was diffrent than the top angle and at diffrent distances. the top of the cone on the top subs would load faster then the bottom causing the cone to angle. same with bottom but the bottom edge.

i don't know if that's the case for this issue probably just a bad joint in the coil

Is there any chance i can get it reconed by FI? :confused If not, i'm not in too much of a hurry, because as of a few hours ago my car is on a semi (compliments of my uncle who works for reliable carriers) down to florida, with only 1 sqx, and my jbl 4 channel for everything. I dont know what its like down there, and i dont want to take a chance of getting everything stolen. All it takes is a reason for someone to bust a window for one thing, and find everything else in the trunk. I'm thinkin next summer i wanna get a single 18'' fsq, or Fi Bl
