PPI ProMOS 425 1/2 ohm stable?

Post by Fishy »

I'm about to pull the trigger on an amp I almost bought 20 years ago. Is there anyone familiar with this amp? The seller claims it is 1/2 ohm stable but my ProMOS 2050D wasn't, and I don't think the MOS 50 is either.

By the size of the freakin heatsink I'd say there was plenty of cooling area for an 800 watt A/B. I just would like to make sure. I can't find a manual anywhere on the thing.

Thanks

Good Advice Neumman.

Yeah I'm back. One of my customers from work stumbled upon one of my eCoustics threads. He said to himself hmmmm....... Fishy, that sounds like Dwight. I guess he was impressed because now he wants me to design couple systems for his vehicles as well as a home theater.

He is part of a group of regulars that fish with me every Wednesday night. They're from "The Islands", i.e. Trinidad, Jamaica, etc. and all pretty much own theiy're own businesses and would like to see me start my own.

Looks like I've got the investors I've always wanted.

I've got some ideas. How does "SQ Technologies" or "SQ Consulting" sound?

I established a corporation a couple years ago when I bought a commercial fishing boat, have found a 1000 ft^2 brick and mortar with an air conditioned office for $800 a month, and have the backing from people that care.

Your are absolutely correct "You only live once".

Expect me around here with a whole crap load of questions.

lol, sounds good man.

Can it do it, probably. The question is how long can it endure it...

The 25 amp fuse scares me, but because this was a competition amp back in the day I imagine they used a much larger one in their show cars.

It don't matter. I'll be running two channels at 2 ohms stereo and the other two bridged into 2 Ohms. I was just wondering about headroom. This amp apparently has it.

Well then it appears that you don't even need to question the ability of it being 1/2 ohm stable :) but I do remember these being very solid.

there probably accounting for impedance rise. so when most people say its .5 ohm stable its really not there impedance rise is just high enough to keep it above 1ohm DCR.
