The only thing that I haven't seen from Sony in car audio that has huge failure rates is the head units... The head units seem to be improving, but the amps, speakers, and subs are still in my opinion and fact from what I've seen in with the likes of DHD PowerCruiser, XXX, Nitro, Performance Teknique, Xplore, Audiofonics, and Cyclone (all of these should be placed in avoid if not already there).
I replaced a Sony pair of 6.5"s that were purchased for $120 with a pair of SPL 6.5"s that I sold for $39.00 about 6 months ago, powered of the H/U and there was more than a noticable difference even to my old deaf ears... In fact the girl talked to me just last week and she still loves the sound of the new speakers.

smoker wrote:your right, thats why i have not had a sony warranty claim. ever. you can hate them but hate them based on facts or if its not gonna be facts hate them because you hate them for no reason other than you dont like they font they use in the name, but, they are the only brand i have where i have never had a returned piece. well them and kicker and maybe one other but im not on trial and its early so forgive me if i leave on out.
oh terry, you act like I wasn't a sony dealer and authorized repair tech for them myself.
I know how poorly they're built inside and out, and I have an electrical engineering degree to back up that knowledge.

most people don't bother with warranties at the dealer. they call Sony and find a repair center, or its over a year old and no longer covered so they throw it out and buy another cheap piece of crap.

joeyc wrote:You know your probably right about sony terry, but the fact is they are not a high quality piece. Everything else, other than car audio, that sony makes is good product, especially laptops.
However, because of the low sound quality and cheesy features/looks of the sony, they are at the bottom of the list for guys like me. What I never considered about sony was what you mentioned, the failure rate. I haven't heard of anyone I know having a sony fail. I hear complaints about them, but no failures.
Another thing is the new, correct me on the name, is it sacd technology? Sony has the market on this, maybe they will have a high end line once again.

ok, im gonna handle these one at a time, first joey. sony has some head units that i dont offer simply because when your talking 100 dollar head units there are some i like better but, that being said it is hard to beat their higher end head units. sony has revamped their head unit lineup and you wont find the ultra cheap ones anymore unless wallyworld bought a ton of them on closeout. ive built a number of nice sounding systems using the top 3 head units they offer and some of their video units. on the lower end of things i dont sell them becasue i will offer planet audio head units as a better alternative or power acoustik. quite simply they work. they work very well and they dont break. but the important thing here is that your my oklahoma sugar muffin

fact is wolf, you say you used to be. thats fine, pretty much every brand has gone through its crappy stage and im not saying sony didnt have one. i dont care a bit about your electrical engineering degree because i sell and install the product. that gives me more information about the reliability and quality of the products than your wall mounted piece of paper does. i spend 60-80 hours a week installing car audio and i wouldnt waste my time on products that would cause me to spend more time than i have to on a car, costing me money and pissing off my customers. once again, quite simply they work and work very well. unless your experience involves the last couple years then your experience is out of date as is your opinion. also i dont know what planet you live on but anytime i sell a customer a product if they have a problem they come back to me. they dont contact the manufacturer, they dont look for a repair center, they come to me. i would do the same thing. depending on the manufacturers requirements i would then either offer a replacement or help them with the return to the manufacturer. but hey thanks for participating. your opinion of a product based on out of date products and years ago experience is duly noted.

i think i addressed your statements pretty well. i responded to your post if not completely close enough. personal attacks? if your referring to my reference of your paper hanging on the wall, if your gonna pull it out be prepared to have me not care. just because you say it doesnt make it a fact. i didnt attack you personally, i didnt call you names. perhaps you could go back to school for a social skills class. as for my acting more mature. try acting a little less like your shit dont stink....

I havent bothered to look at Sony in ages.

I can NOT believe they still make TAPE DECKS. I havent seen a tape with pre recorded audio on it for sale in years, like 10+...lol

Now onto the Units. The 720 on up looks decent to me.

Maybe they are coming around with the HU's at least. I think the mid to lower end stuff still is cheesed up gheyness, but the mid to uppers look decent.

To be honest I think their upper end HU's have looked decent for some time. But they just have a bad rep IMO which would prevent me from buying.

And as Terry pointed out... There are still quite a few companies that make tape decks like JVC, Kenwood, and Pioneer.
