2008 Challenger vs. 2009 Camaro

Post by CaptainPioneer »

Well after watching Transformers for the 10th time... I am becoming more and more akin to the idea of in about 6 years buying one of these bad boys while i am still young... Now... I have been doing a lot of rumor searching and i have been hearing these few things:

2008 Challenger: Only available in SRT-8 configuration 425hp 6.1 Hemi
Price Tag: $41,029 WITHOUT Dealership mark ups.
2009 Dodge will offer 3 other models but the prices will still be consistantly expensive.

2009 Camaro: Offering 3 models: 3.5L V6 250 Hp, 5.7L 8 Cyl 350+hp?, 6.0L LS2 400hp

Prices varying from as low as 22K for the v6 and up to 35k for the LS2

Now... Orgiginally i was completely against considering the Camaro... but to he honest... It looks like a better bang for the buck scenario... So really what are you getting extra with the Challenger? 25HP more? A lot more weight and unfortunately none of the interior features shown on the concept.

Now the Camaro... shit is still up in the air about the interior but the designers made it clear that this is absolutely a throw-back vehicle, so the gagues will remain similar and possibly the center console... which is a huge plus cause al the mid 60's Camaro's had the best center consoles ever!

Nothing in the Challenger's interior really stands out too much for me... Plus its a damn heavy car, and absolutely terrible on gas... 13-18 they are stating already!

The Camaro is looking at close to 26mpg Highway and 17 city.

Yes MPG is important to me too. I do enjoy a car that i can drive more if i dont have to fill it up as often.. Any way here are some pix of what im talking about.

For sure the Camaro. On top of the fact that Chrysler's interior's feel pretty damn cheap, and aren't put together all that great, I'd be all over the Camaro.

I am more for the Challenger, mainly cause it will be the only SRT-8 model out with a 6 speed, and in terms of total investment, the challenger will still be heads over the Camaro. The camaro is still considered a "pony" car designed to compete with the Mustang, but the Challenger is a true Musclecar...and considering how low the pricepoint this will be...41k is not that bad. You can get around the dealer price. Order it, and you don't have to worry about Dealer pricing.

well believe it or not Dealers are already gouging prices an extra 20k ontop of MSRP right now... Obviously that doesnt effect me too much... Bur really, I could throw a Procharger on the Camaro and blow the Challenger out of the water... I have this feeling that this is a bad move on Chryslers part by trying to make this car so expensive... really they need to find somethign that should compete with the pony cars becase the Charger sure as hell cant.

ok if your talking 6.0 LS2 engine vs. Challenger. Someone stated it wrong LS2 STOCK is 505hp i was a car salesman for chevy till just a couple months ago, very very very good engine right there. They are running it int he SS trailblazer and it pushes a freakin trail blazer to 5.0 sec 0 - 60mph. No to mention its in c06 corvettes. And the 5.7 i wouldnt say much more than 305 on that one. pretty positive thats the same set up they are running in the SS impala. But anyway going off of an investment deal. DODGE hold value about as well as the crap i just took. Your talking an easy half your investment moeny gone the minute u roll it off the lot

O yes if everyone hasnt notice chrylser is retarded hence why they are broke and GM is trying to buy them out lol. Charger= 80s mustang

Well I prefer the Camaro... and subster is correct on the LS2 with 505HP, and the LS2 Camaro, and it is supposed to be pushing more than that which is why Chevy is bringing out the new SuperVette... By GMs playbook, Nothing is allowed to be faster than the Corvette. And that's why the Firehawks and WS6s were tuned down, but could still easily be made faster than the Vettes of years back.
As for the Challenger, I do compliment Chrysler as it is to be a very nice and fast car... And the price is due to the fact that the first year will hold it's value since they are only making a limited supply of these... You know kinda like trying to find a cheap Prowler with low miles now a days (and those were by no means a sports or even pony car)... If you've got the money to buy the Challenger as an investment and only drive it one fair weather days, then keep it for 20+ years... There's no question it will hold and even increase in value... But if you're looking for a great daily tire scorcher... Camaro Baby! ;)

just cause the ls2 produces 505hp in the vette doesnt mean it will in the maro. just like they do with the cts. and if i had my choice id say to hell with both of them and get the new 600hp cts-v when it comes out.
