sub randomly thumping?

Post by MrSo0h0o »

hey guys i was wondering if anyone had an idea whats going on. lately my sub has been making random single thump noises. obviously i can only tell its going on when the volume is low. i made sure the RCA's werent touching any metal, and i moved my amp around a little to see if it made a difference but still the same. could this be something to do with my voice coils?

here is basic specs on my setup:
sub- RF Punch HE2 10" old school.. 300w rms.. dont remember the VC config
amp- Xtant A3001 300w rms @ 2ohm, 150w rms @ 4ohm

what is some basic troubleshooting i can do?

TIA

I would redo your ground on the amp and HU. That's about all that comes to my mind right now.

Yeah that sounds like a power or ground isue.

How do you have the ground wire on your amp set up?

ground for amp is grounded on a bolt near the rear passenger seat belt setup. maybe it has become loose? would that cause that type of sound?

Your speaker wire might not be secure. Or it could be grounding out. Or your RCAs could be moving at the HU or at the amp.

Sure can. I use a self locking washer on mine so that they don't come loose on me.

has nothing to do with your voice coils and never would. its something in your signal. without signal or power your vc are nothing but a winding of copper or aluminum.
