Would this be a decent HU?

Post by SCOlds »

I'm looking for a new HU for my 2001 Alero, as the Sony CDX-M630 just crapped out in it. (Dont flame about the Sony, it was in when I bought the car). I previously had a Pioneer DEH-P6700MP HU in my Jeep, but I sold it. I loved that unit, stood up to a lot. I want something newer now, and I have been looking at Kenwood KDC-MP635's. They seem to be a nice unit, has anybody had experience with these? Image

go with a pioneer DEH-p7800mp or the preimere version deh-p780mp. those are two really great headunits. i have the p7800mp, and i'm in love with the thing. the options with it seem almost infinite, very flexible, very friends, strong, and very stylish. go for the gold man!

I think I would avoid any Kenwood that isn't a Kenwood excelon. I've seen too many of the cheaper ones just up and die.

<~~~ agrees. it all boils down to this: you get what you pay for. if you are feeling risky and have a low budget, then problems may be in front of you. if you opt for a nice deck, spend the money on it now, make the proper investment in your equipment, then you'll be reaping the rewards for a long time to come. even if you'd have to wait an additional month to save up to get a really nice HU, it's worth the wait, and definitely worth every penny spent.

^Agreed x2... I've seen my fair share of problems with some of the lower line Kenwoods as well, for budget system with features I'd put Jensen over Kenwood, but I'd also agree that Pioneer, JVC, or Panasonic would be the way to go ;)

the lower end kenwoods are the absolute best for spl as they have very very good anti skip quality's and not to many built in filters but if you want sq go another way.

For a H/U with a lot of options and a lil flash, it is a very solid unit :thumbsup

I just bought one on Ebay for $137. Open box, but new. I hope it will be a decent unit.
