Def some food for thought. If I end up keeping this car, I'll look into that. Thanks.

Well I'm assuming that since you were powering 6x9"s they were in the back, and I'm not suprised it sounds better with less power... If you wanna amp something... amp the front stage and drop the 6x9"s in the back completely for a better sound... You have to remember that our ears are designed to catch sound from in front and beside us and not the back... If you feel it necessary to have something back there, make a baffle for some nice lil 6" midbass and then throw them some power (you always get better sound out of a round speaker over a oblong too ;) )

Well I just found out that a bad ground could cause this. And I've been having issues with the ground since this started happening.

But yesterday I got pissed and just took the amp out and hooked the speakers back up to the HU and they sound great. Actually almost better than when they were on the amp.

So maybe if I get bored later, I'll hook it back up. But prolly not, lol.

Start checking the wiring going to the amp... there is probably a short there somewhere... If not could be internal

It's a Sony amp, so obviously its not really 1000w.

And the 6x9's are 280w a piece.

who in their right mind puts 1000watts to a pair of 6x9s? i bet the rms on that amp is like, 100 watts or something.

lol, shit happens.

Haha, wow. I can't read.

The wires are all good going to the speakers, and I'm pretty sure it's prolly the ground.

@William from NOLA: It's pushing 6x9's. :)

Check your wiring to the sub, are you sure you have them wired for the correct ohms? You may be running a load that the amp can't do.

And also, do check the wiring to the subs and be double sure (if you are sure, that is). Never hurts to go over your work :)
