I agree ... online sales (especially ebay) make it difficult for smaller businesses... I have people come in asking all the time if I'll beat or match a price they found online... My reply is always "No."
Don't get me wrong I love the internet... I wouldn't be here without it.
But it gets tiring from an authorized dealers stand point like Terry and myself when we are constantly having to explain "If you wanna save money and have NO Warranty, by all means shop online". And if you want it installed "sure I'll install it, but you get no warranty on labor either as I am not going to be held responsible for any item I didn't sell"
This country... let alone the world... was built on small business, everybody had to start somewhere ;) So if you have a "good" local shop... support them from time to time... otherwise you'll only be supporting them later in the unemployment line.

i still say the internet may not hurt the economy overall but it is destroying small businesses the world over.

I had the same experience with Stereorama downing my internet purchase as well. He (the fat guy that's been there forever) tried his hardest to push the JL components at me. Yeah, like they are sooo much better than Dynaudio components.

I must say that they have done some incredible installs and have been in that some shop for over 20 years.

You can see numerous of their installs in Car Audio magazine.

They must be doing something right.

I had a post written, but it said the thread was invalid (?) when I tried to post, so I lost it.
Anyway, you have accidently and unknowingly destroyed your own system by turning up the SVC (Source Volume Control) setting. The installer may have had it set at -10 for whatever reason and then setup all your gains based on that. When you turned it back up to whatever setting that you had turned it back up to, it caused your amp to clip hardcore, blowing up the cap in your crossover and burning up your VCs.
Just as a disclaimer, that's simply my observation on your post, I'm not saying that did destroy your stuff, or that the installer is a bad installer, just my observations on your post. Good day :)
