Well, I'm not going with Toshiba. I really liked the Toshiba laptops but the models they offer in Canada are weak in comparison to the models they offer in the U.S.

I emailed them asking wtf was up with that.

Here's their reply...

Thank you for contacting Toshiba of Canada Limited with your inquiry/request. You are correct, we do not have the same products and pricing as Toshiba America, we are two separate entities and do not cross borders with shipping. Their market is bigger and they are able to customize as we in Canada are not. If you would like an American product you can contact Insight Canada whom also sell American notebooks. Hope this helps.

At least they replied.

I try to get the best screen possible for a laptop when I'm looking, but that is me. The cheaper laptops have some really junky looking screens sometimes.

Awesome, William! Thanks for answering!

I think I'll go with Toshiba then because I like most everything about them. And I'll definitely mess around with them first. If there's one or two small things I find annoying (like touch sensitive buttons) with the one I nail it down to, that's fine, I'll adjust to it. Especially if the rest of it is good.

And yeah, I understand that the best gaming laptop is a desktop. ;) That's ok too. My desktop consists of a Dell UltraSharp 1905fp and an HP Pavilion a6228x so that gives you an idea how easily my desktop will be beaten by a good desktop replacement laptop.

And I'll definitely get a good mouse for it.

Thanks, man!

Time to shop!

That Toshiba looks good. See if you can find one at Best Buy or whatnot to play with to make sure you like it. I think I'd advise against any lower level Dell's. There used to be a lot of talk about the Sony's but I haven't found them to be any better than most others. I would read about what people are saying about all laptops recently. It's been a few years since I've bought one.

I don't think you should expect the best graphics on a laptop, but you should be able to play most recent games decently. I would definitely make sure you have a separate mouse for some games.

Well that sucks, Bill.

I've been reading shitloads of reviews and have noticed a few people calling ASUS, ANUS instead but most reviews were good.

My second choice was Toshiba but the laptops that appeal to me most have touch sensitive volume and stuff and that annoys me. Especially when it makes a sound everytime you hit the volume buttons. Mabey that can be turned off though. I like the speakers and audio put in to the models I was looking at. I was considering a less expensive laptop made by Toshiba. This one here... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... A505-S6985

What are your opinions on this model? Half decent?

I just want a good desktop replacement that I can play a few games on. I don't need to ride it around town or anything.

Asus admitted they had a problem with the bios on the P5K boards after i had called there tech support. the min i would turn the board on the bios would immediatly corrupt. Returned it to newegg and then they sent me a replacement with the exact same issue. I used an Asus board in my dads pc and 2 of the 4 ram slots were doa. That was it for me.

Ok, thanks, William.

Asus is good. DOA can be a number of reasons that aren't always the manufacturer's fault.

Gigabyte is also good. I know MSI used to be good, but I'm not sure about the current products. EPox hasn't impressed me.

I have been watching the prices and all for the video cards and over the last 2 months, I haven't looked into ATI. I'm kicking myself now. I didn't know about the new cards. They are also all sold out on newegg.

Oh really? Should I steer clear of ASUS?
