Darn JeremeyC, he talked me into the Air Force.

Downfall
I must lose 10% BodyFat (I'm at 30% and need to be at 20%) or get down to 192 lbs. So I'm gonna be DEFINATELY getting a job. I was hoping to work out enough that I could just move to military but its all good.

No worries :)

I just don't want to go active for four years and be away from my family/house.
I realize if I join Nat. Guard I will go to basic (which will be away), Fort Gillem for AIT (can live @home). I will probally get deployed which I'd be gone for a year. If I join Air Force/Army/Marines/Navy won't I be sent away longer?

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm just not 100% on these things and unfortunately its not like its listed on the website. I have signed some paperwork with the National Guard but have not gone to MEPS or taken the asvab yet. I'll take the asvab wed.

the Air Forces the way to go. I am Security Forces and people would consider my job to be one of the worst but I love it. i like to travel so i deploy as much as possible. You cant go wrong with the Air Force.

I'd go with the Air-Force if you are interested with it. The Air-Force has the highest re-enlistment rate among any of the services and there's a good reason why... but I'm sure Jeremy can tell you all about that being a member of U.S.A.F. himself.

OK, thank god, I mean I can shoot a rifle and what not I'm worried about running to my next "safe point" while someone is covering me and getting shot in the butt or worse.

Jeremy, I'm still debating on Air Force but I've been really favoring this military intelligence program based on the fact of civilian jobs when I get done. Afterall the only reason I am doing this is for money. Sorry for all you patriots but I mean if it wasn't for the cash, I wouldn't do it probally. I don't know since I've became somewhat of a family man my priorities in life have changed drastically.

The only things I shot were a 9mm, and a M16, so I wasn't worried about it.

Honestly the training has to be Army proof, so I wouldn't worry. They go step by step on what to do, well before you get out on the range. Even then everything is so controled, it would be hard to goof something up.

In the national guard you won't face many serious situations, I think your safe to join the National Guard if that's what your asking. My posts are directed more towards marines who are pracically frontliners for the Iraqi guerilla soldiers. Hussein is dead I don't know why we're over there, all I'm saying.

Please do not turn this into a political debate thread.
I don't mean that rudely just would prefer this thread to stay about the National Guard/Military and not politics.

I've been watching all the video's and the physical/mental stuff didn't really get to me not even the gas chamber, but what did was firing live rounds.
IE : Live Grenades and Live Firearms. Did anyone else feel this trepidation when it came to these items? If so, how did you overcome it?

And this is directly to jeremy, i understand that saddam hussein had to be removed from power, however, we shouldn't be as concerned about other nations when our in is in just as much trouble. Take a closer look at the attacks on 9/11.

by brisgreat1 » Fri Feb 09, 2007 8:35 pm

I wanted to join the army but because of my criminal charges i couldn't, however the marines would accept me. Didn't even look into the airforce... if i can't get in to the army won't get in to the airforce. The navy never really interested me.

I didn't mean to sound so anti-military, I just want the people who are thinking about it to realize that from Day 1 of boot camp, you've got 4 more years and there's no getting around that. Some people are ok with that and make it work for them and benefit from the experience, however, I'm not one of those people. I wouldn't enlist in Active Duty if given the chance. I still think about the reserves however.
