sunfire 95
I had a 95 sunfire. I took out the plastic 4 x 6 speakers and the plates they were mounted on. I took a peice of 3/4" fiberboard, cut it to 8" x 8", and cut the hole for the 6.5" to mount in. I then used the same holes as the plastic 4 x 6 holders to screw the 6.5" on. Took about 20 minutes to make both fiberboard plates.

On the Sunfire you have a 4x6 in the door. You can put a 6.5 in there but you would have to build a spacer plate so the window clears the speaker. Its done fairly easily the shop you were talking about would have to fabricate something (No adapter plates avail that i am aware of). Unless you know what you are doing $100 is fairly reasonable as long as the job is up to standard. Another piece of advice make sure the shop is using ABS or some sort of water resistant material to make these adapters (Not Wood) as wood will eventually give in to the elements (Insides of doors are not exactly water tight)

4x6 to 6.5 adapters I am not aware of any company that actually makes them for resale

this is a good point that i overlooked....most 4x6 plates are for 4" mids......what kind of car is this anyway?

Im new to this forum but $80 for component install is about right for the area I live in. At the shop I work at we get $80 get component installation. As for
4x6 to 6.5 adapters I am not aware of any company that actually makes them for resale (Metra, AAMP, ect) So the shop would most likely make them. Plus keep in mind if you flushing the tweeter of the component set into the door if you pay the shop to do it you can hold them accountable to deliver a professional looking installation unlike some buddy that will do it for $20 and a six pack.

if you can do everything but cut a bigger hole in the door and they make an adaptor to fit a 6.5 to your car then buy the adaptor and do it yourself

by Mithrandir » Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:06 pm

and if they say well thats if it fits in the factory spots other wise its blah blah blah even though the sign does not specify? but how much is a fair price to pay?
Cause I can do everything but cut a bigger hole in the door myself

I think its a good law. I wish they did that in Ohio.

Ive been to the store countless times to buy stuff and wasnt marked. Sometimes I got a good deal IMO, sometimes it was way expensive and I just left. Then sometimes I just dont buy it...

lol

I like that law. Go into a store/shop everything is priced clearly and plainly. There is no questions...

by Justin from Detroit1 » Thu Jan 26, 2006 11:54 am

Yeah, but that law is on the way out. Plus, if they have an electronic price checker, then they don't need to have ANYTHING priced.

by Ryan from Ohio » Thu Jan 26, 2006 8:47 am

Thats when the * next to the price comes in.

Then at the bottom of the pages is a
*This price is for most cars

lol

I believe Michigan has a law stating anything for sale in a store/shop must be clearly priced.
