I hate politics, but most people are extremely blind to this one source that could honestly solve SO many of our environmental problems in the world today.
It can be grown anywhere in the world, it reaches full maturity in one growing season, grows at incredible rates, the roots of this plant surpass any other, and are a simple solution to mudslides, the plant makes as much paper using 1 acre as 4acres of trees, the seeds have the most perfect ratios of essential fatty/amino acids for humans, and are only second to soy beans in protein, its one of the most pure sources of food for humans. It requires NO herbicides or pesticides, which are currently decimating farmers in the US...50% of the herbicides are used on cotton, which covers 1% of the country.
Know what the plant is yet? probably, those are some typically common traits of the plant that you might hear, but what about things like Henry Ford using the oils in his automotive manufacturing, what about Queen Victoria using tinctures of it for her menstrual cramps? Or when George Bush Sr's plane was shot down in the war his shoelaces, and parachute were made from this plant, his plane's engine used the plants oil...prior to the 1930's it was widely used. In fact during, I believe it was the Revolutionary war?? There was a mandatory law in which you had to have at least a field of this plant on your land.
What about the fact that the federal government has it scheduled as "highly addictive" with "absolutely no medical benefit" when doctors all over the country are prescribing it to patients.
It was one of the US top resources up until it was outlawed in 1937, because a few key members of congress were highly financially interested in DuPont, which was just coming out with their new fiber (nylon) and this plant was too much of a threat. outlawed in 90 seconds...
Cannabis.
I'm not trying to start a marijuana debate because I know that's frowned upon on the boards, but if anyone wants to privately discuss the subject I'd love to.

Young, ruled: 'Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man," and asked the Drug Enforcement Administration to reschedule it. The DEA refused, keeping it as a Schedule I drug, which they say "has no known medical use"'
